red paint for JCW caliper
red paint for JCW caliper
anybody know where I can get some red paint to match front JCW brakes. I suppose that I can go to the dealer next week but I really want to paint the rear calipers tomorrow (sunday) and the dealer is closed.
If I can confirm that an exact match simply is not available, then I'll just get the closest match I can at a local store and get the job done tomorrow.

The dealer doesn't carry paint anyway (besides the small bottles of touch up paint they sell). They contract painting out to bodyshops.
You need to get the right kind of paint. I suggest you google "brake caliper paint".

Thanks, I'm aware that paint must be spec'd for calipers so it holds up to high temps, but was hoping to find an exact color match. I didn't think that the dealer would have any paint to sell but was hoping that a color code was available.
Looks like I'll just find something that is as close as possible and buy a bunch of it so I can use the same stuff to paint the fronts next time pads are changed. Too bad I just did these! Professor, I'm surpirsed you used brush on rather than spray. Seems like spray would be easier. However, brush on would be great for touching up.

I've been using MINI's Chili Pepper Red touch up paint. It matches perfectly and never had to re-touch it.
Applied when brakes are cold, let dry completely before driving. I had one chip about size of Qtip head and since application last year, AOK

After doing some research into the best way to do this, I saw where someone suggested these: http://www.calipercovers.com/_e/page...Video_Page.htm
They make them for Mini, and it seems like it would be a high end, permanent solution to this problem. It's expensive, but I found a place that's cheaper: http://www.calipercovers.com/_e/page...Video_Page.htm
I've ordered them for my R60S, so we'll see how it goes, although the video shows that it couldn't be any easier, certainly easier than paint!

I have seen a few of these on the forums. Most don't care for them, but hey if you like them go for it.

thought i'd update......I was not sure why some use brush-on rather than spray-on when I first posted. Now that I changed all rotors and pads and tried to paint I can answer. I bought some red caliper spray at O'reilleys, took everything apart, cleaned really well, and sprayed the retaining clip and other piece. All good, no problems but when I was to spray caliper it got very windy. And there lies the major difference, at least for me. I did not want to risk getting overspray on my car so just decided to wait for another time. Will wait for another project... either replace pads or install ss lines, at that time will remove calipers completely and spray.
