Advice on Expansion Tanks.....

I'm going to be replacing the expansion tank on my 06 JCW cabriolet just as a precautionary measure and I'm considering the Canton and the Forge units. So......

Are there any fitment problems with either? (I've heard that the Canton requires some bending of some tab or something. Also, I've got the JCW front strut brace.)

How do the two generally compare? (Quality, fit, performance?)

I know the Forge uses the stock cap:

What pressure does the stock cap vent at?

When the stock cap vents, where does the fluid go? (I think all over the tank and engine compartment.)

The Canton comes with a 30 psi (or at least it's recommended) cap. Is that too high? Why so high when most systems run around 14 to 16 psi?

When using the Canton, where do you vent the overflow hose that fits where the pressure cap goes?

And if y'all have anything else to add, please do.

Thanks much!

I would also like to know this.
Plus any suggestion for high pressure caps?

IMHO, there is no reason other than bling to use Canton or Forge tanks. You can buy nearly 10 OEM tanks for one of those two. and considering each OEM tank lasts years. I doubt the bling tanks would ever pay off. just my .02

I agree with Agarwaen. If you are not after bling, and only doing it as a precaution, then go for the oem one. My first tank lasted 6+ years. If/when it fails, it is not catastrophic, so you will have time to replace it.

Mine leaked at a Laguna Seca track day and it was the first time I ever got a (Mechanical) Black Flag, I totally freaked out. And I really really wish to replace it, so it does not happen again and I don't wig out.

Same as martinb I am debating Canton and Forge, but would also like a high pressure cap for it. Any suggestions? Will even these leak?

I'd just like to avoid the hassle of dealing with it. Whether you pay someone else to put a new tank in, or whether you do it yourself, replacing it even once will cost more in time and hassle than the aftermarket tanks cost. My time is worth something to me. I certainly do NOT want to be replacing tanks periodically. For me, the benefit of an aftermarket tank is primarily that I know I'll never get stuck out on the road and I'll never have to deal with the installation.

People often look only at the cost of the parts and do not consider what the lost time in their lives is worth.

Oh, I'd still like to know what the stock pressure cap is rated at. Does anyone know? I do not want to install a cap with a higher pressure rating as that can cause problems elsewhere in the system. And a properly designed system really only needs around 16 psi to work properly and avoid boiling of the coolant.

The second gen expansion tank (after 5/03?) has really had no issues. The ones that split were all the older ones.
