JCW Suspension--Labor Charge to Install

I was quoted 8 hours, $1,130, by a local dealership in Los Angeles. Wow.

Is this in the ballpark of what others are being quoted?

That does sound a bit steep but then again if you check out Motoring File's report:

If I did it, it will take longer but will be a lot cheaper. $1130 = just labor??

That's $141.25 per hour. MINI of Mountian View told me they charge $150 per hour.

It can take up to 8 hours to install but sometimes less.

Coilover labor prices vary alot from about $200 to $400 to $800 depending on labor rates that start from $70/hr to $150/hr.

Try Steve's auto clinic for MINI installs in Southern Calif.

Take it to an experienced alignment place. Theyll have to align it afterwards anyways which im guessing the dealer may be outsorcing for that price. Theres bound to be a local place that could handle the install and do a good job for a lot less than $1000. Once I had learned how to do the suspension on my civic i got coilover off and back to stock in 5 hours with just my own time. 8 hours is ridiculous for experienced technitions.

That is pretty insane. On a new car with nice new bushings i can not see that taking very long at all, especialy with a lift and air tools.

for those of you getting the JCW Suspension... is your dealership having any problems getting the parts? my dealer told me today that the car is ready except the suspension and they weren't sure when they were going to get the parts.

Ridiculous. These parts should be sitting on the assembly line as a factory option. I wouldn't trust any LA area BMW/Mini dealer to spend 8 hours taking apart my new car. I cross my fingers that they don't botch an oil change or brake pad replacement.

standard rate is an hour per corner. That makes 4 hours using my math!
