Broken Door Lock

I wasn't too sure where to post this, but this sounded right. My driver side door will no longer unlock with the key or the center lock switch. But it will lock using the key. Has anyone had this happen or does anyone know how to fix this. It really sucks having to use the key hole every time I get in the car. Any help is awsome.

Kyle

I have EXACTLY the same problem, it started about a month ago. I does suck having to use the "old fashioned" method.......lol It's like having to get of the couch to change the TV channel rather than using the remote!!

My dealer said that i need a new part in the door, and so have many members here. Only problem is, i'm at 60k so no warranty. I think it's about $200 to get the problem fixed.

I was going to get the part and do it myself, but i can't figure out how on earth to get to the mechanisim (sp?) as i can bearly get my hand in there.

I also have this problem, but am fortunate enough to still be (just) under warranty. It is definitely something I would live with otherwise.

I believe the door lock actuator is the culprit, and can be reached easily by removing the door panel (I know I saw a write-up on how to do that somewhere here on NAM).

Anyone out there attempt this repair on there own?

Thanks for the info. I think I will see what Johnny's Auto Clinic in San Pedro can do it for. He does really good work with the MINI's. Or I guess I may just have to deal with it.

I’m patiently awaiting a report on the fix and part number. Mine went out today. Getting the panel off is no problem.

Mine is also ka-put. I can hear the solenoid trying to work, but it no longer actuates the mechanism, so I'm stuck doing ye ole fashioned key operation to lock and unlock. I already have a new assembly sitting here, but it looks daunting, LOL!

It does look very tight in there. I'm not sure how to seperate the outside door handle from the black box. Even if that happens, I really hope the box comes out past the window mechanism! It would be nice if the Bentley manual had a tip or hint, but alas, yet again, when something tough needs repair, the Bentley is silent. Anyone out there actually replace theirs successfully?

My passenger door is doing the same thing.
I'd like to see a superfix beyond just the replacement of the same OEM parts that will fail again, that is unless k-huevo comes up with an upgraded OEM part.

To remove the door panel:

Unscrew and pull. That's what I remember.

I would definitely appreciate some elaboration on your process! I'm not one of those lucky ones that has their door lock mechanism start behaving itself again like k-huevo's!
