Interior/Exterior Sunroof Rattle Fixed...THANK GOD!!
#1
I fianlly got around to "fixing" the sunroof rattle using the soft velcro strip method. It has been very cold here, so the rattle was getting almost unbearable. If anyone hasn't tried to fix this already, I would highly reccomend it!

>>Yup, the velcro trick got rid of 98% of my rattle. I still have a bit of a rattle from the black plastic control housing up there...but the Dunkin Donut napkin trick has seemed to have done the trick...just need a more permanent solution.

What!?? Are you saying that Dunkin Donut napkins aren't permanent?

I get a small rattle when the car is cold from the rear hatch and the passenger side of the sunroof, near the rear. (Not the rear sunroof, the rear of the front)
It's the kind of cold that makes your nipple into a fist; and we've had some mornings like that here in WisCAAAANsin.
I wedge my fingers up against it and the rattle stops.
Anyone else had this type of rattle?

Nope, all my sunroof rattles were at the FRONT of the top (not the rear). But the "push your hand against it" solution works just as well at the front. But since the basic problem is poor glass alignment, I guess it's not suprising if it rattles at the rear as well as the front.

The rattle that is in the front of the sunroof (in my case) was related to the two wind flaps that pop up when the sunroof is opened. I guees when it is cold out there is a slight contraction somewhere and the flaps rattle against the sunnroof.
If you open your sunroof and look at the side of the flaps that face the rear of the car you may see a small mark (mine looked like a small scuff mark about 2" long.) on either or both flaps. This is where the rubbing/rattling is occuring. I took some rubbing alcohol and cleaned the surface of the flaps and then applied a 3" strip of velrco (fuzzy, soft side) on each flap right over the scuff mark. Now the only time I get any rattles is if I run over a pot hole or something like that.
This rattle was driving me CRAZY. I too used the push on on the sunroof where the rattle was, but after doing that every monrning, all winter long, it got really old.
Hope this helped.
Oh yeah....I amost forgot: I bought the adhesive velcro strips from Michael's Craft Store.

Thanks to all for this useful post. This was driving me out of my F*&king mind. I was so upset I purchased my first new car in 18 years and alredy had to take it back to the dealer for repair.
As many of you know we here in the Northeast have been hammered by olo' Mr. Winter. A few weeks back I attended a Mini rally sponsored by Prestige Mini in NJ. It was a great day VERY VERY cold sure enough the rattle was driving me bats. I could'nt drown it turning the radio louder as the rally was a scavenger hunt and I neede to communicate with the wife for directions....OK I know theres a lot of jokes there....anyhow thanks for the advise...JMAVP
