LED Fog Light DRL's from OutMotoring

Hey everybody! I recently got my hands on a set of LED Fog Light DRL's.

Here's some unboxing:

The fog housing is solid...I mean this thing is heavy (I think the package was 4lbs)...its made from some type of cast metal... very nice quality piece. If any of you are familiar with Ciraya (they make the 3 led side marker a lot of people are running)... they make pretty nice items from my experience. Out of the box, the fog kit is completely plug and play requiring the removal of the front bumper and use of the oem connectors and fog light with an additional wire that connects to the car battery (I'm assuming this wire draws energy to power LEDs).

Here are some pics of the fogs installed:Name: LEDDRLs113.jpg

And here are some pics of the LEDs turned on:

Overall, I'm very impressed with the fit and light output during the day. They put out quite a bit of light... I had to squint a little when looking at them close distance standing up. Before turning them on, I was anticipating mediocre LED quality like those seen on ebay... but I can safely say after installing them they can definitely hold there own against DRL LED's from Audi, Mercedes, etc...

I will post some night pics as well as rolling shots soon... It snowed today in Seattle (and if you live here... you know the city closes down and stupid drivers come out) so I will get those up ASAP!

Also, a big shout out to Aaron from OutMotoring.com for supplying me with these beauties and answering all my questions about them... definitely hit him up if you want a set!

Enjoy, ryoma111

***UPDATE***

Here are some night shots... these will give you an idea of how bright they are...

Honestly, the hardest part was taking off the bumper and putting it back on since there are quite a few screws and push buttons... everything else was pretty straight forward. I would suggest having two people for the job since its hard to hold the side fender molding over while unscrewing some of the screws by yourself and well as hooking all the wires back up when you put the front bumper back on. Shoot me an PM if you have issues/questions!

Do the LEDs operate as running lights, DRLs, or both? It would be good to have an alternative to MINI's "DRL" (full power headlights).

so the LEDs on the outer edge act as DRL and the center part uses the fog bulb, acting as fog light? This means that when the fog is ON, it's yellowish?

rkw- The LED's are on at all times (regardless of light toggle settings), acting as DRL's.

MyroMini- you are correct. The LEDs are white and if you turn on the fogs (assuming you have yellow fog bulbs), you fog lights will be yellow. As well the beam pattern when the fogs are on is pretty close to the OEM beam pattern (a little more hot spotting compared to the more even distribution of the OEM fog housing).

Thanks for the positive feedback guys!

How does the output of the LEDs alone compare with the OEM foglight? Do you see a big difference when switching ON the fog lights with these?

Jolio- they are sold as a pair

MyroMini- If you take a look on the first posts update, you can see how birght the LEDs are without any other lights turned on, as far as the output of the LEDs+fogs on, it looks just like the pic described with an additional bar of light (the light output is pretty similar to the OEM fog light output). I will try to post some pics of the fogs lights on with the LED's on as soon as I get a chance!

They look like great, high-quality lights, but I'm not sure I'm liking the purpley-blue from the white LED and yellow color from the fog light. It would be distracting and a bit too busy for my tastes. A bit like a rock concert. I understand that yellow is the best color for true fog light use, so I get that, but the purpley-bluish light from the LED's just plain bugs me.

Do you find it a bit weird while driving with them on? Perhaps your picture makes it seem more pronounced than it really is, because you're shining the lights onto your garage door right in front of your car. It probably isn't nearly as noticeable out on the roads at night.

Not trying to diminish or take away your enjoyment of the lights. Just saying that they're a bit too colorful for me, personally.

jonnieoh- I think the camera makes the like seem more purple/bluer than what it really is. It looks white to me when I stand infront of the car. You do get a little purple/bluish hue when looking at the LEDs from certain side angles but it is mainly white.

GTECKO- Thanks! I will try to get some night pics up soon. It recently snowed about 8 inches in Seattle so my car will be staying inside until the snow clears up

Heres a couple more pics of the LEDs during the day:

Would you say they are the same brightness as the xenon ?
I had changed my bulb for the fogs on mine, so its as bright as my DRL, can I use the same bulb on this kit ?

GTECKO- As far as brightness, they are very bright, but they are no where near the same lumen output as xenon. My 3000k HID fog lights definitely overpower the output of these DRL's. Dont get me wrong, these fogs are very bright (just look at the night pic of them aimed at my garage door).
The fog lights from the OEM housing will transfer to the LED housing without issues.
