MCS -> MC Fuel Door Retrofit

Hey folks,

I'm not sure if this has been attempted before, but...

I admire MINI's attention to detail on the MCS, but I personally think the fuel door is one thing that shouldn't stand out like a sore thumb. So, I'd like to convert the chrome fuel door assembly on my MCS to the body-colored, subtle fuel door that our Justacooper friends enjoy. In other words:

I want to go from this:

to this:

I'd like to know if anyone else has done it, if its just a simple five minute job or something more complicated. If not, and its not retardedly difficult (ie: involves removing the whole quarter panel) then I'll be sure to document the project here.

Another option would be to get a body colored cover to hide the plastic chrome.

call me crazy.... and probably even late... but i fixed my own little deal with the gas cap by painting it black... took all of an hour for the coats and clear coat.

it's sleek, functional, wicked crack and weather proof.

also did the door handles, all said and done, only took about 3 hours total (for full coverage and best results anyway)... cost a full 15 bucks now THERE"S some tuner money well saved, granted having something like pre covered stuff like VS is plenty good, i unfortunately can't consistently spend that kind of money on aesthetic mods.

How does that make it not stand out like a sore thumb? If anything, it has the effect of drawing more attention to it.

It wouldn't be as clean a look as the standard door, but you could paint the chrome one body color.

I agree though, the chrome one doesn't look good. I would have preferred the cleaner look of the Cooper cover.

I think it stands out less than chrome, on a black and blue car a black accent draws less attention than a chrome one... IMHO at least

These are two of the nicest MINIs on the farums. Both have taken a lot of time to do it right.

I personally like the look of the gas door but not in chrome. I went the PlastiDip way. But I can see how the standard MINI fuel dor cleans up the car a bit. If it's took much work for you go for the painting it and see what you think. It might change your mind.
