Interior/Exterior Joey mod R56!
Use some GOOD plastic cleaner when you have em apart to get the smudges, off and not leave any other issues behind.
GOOD LUCK! Let us know if we can help further!
sweet! i think yours is the first ds i have seen. have any 3/4 shots of the whole car? i cant decide if i want to do mine black or a dark silver inside the lights so i was hoping to see the black on yours. also, did you paint the rings ds also? thanks
What does that mean? Can you actually get or make new turn signal lenses for the headlights?
Your joey mod is lookin' good!

yeah you dont have to split the headlight to get the whole turn signal out. it is held in by 4 torx screw i believe. its really simple once you look at it.
im sure a clear lens could be made from something... im not THAT crafty. i'd love to see someone make one though.

These bulbs have offset pins which made them not fit. Maybe because my turn signals were designed to have clear bulbs?
My husband dremeled one pin off each bulb, then they fit just fine. I do not know if the offset pin slots are different for MINIs that came with amber bulbs & clear lenses to begin with. After all that, I found this site:

The 'Silver Extreme' item looks like the same thing, but with different options including pins that would've fit. (1156/7506)
Either way, its over $10 a bulb.
I would also like to see someone come up with a way to make the lenses.
In your pictures, the 'naked bulb' doesn't seem to stand out as much as mine does. That's why I thought you had some clear lenses.
let me get something straight... i didnt get the white turn signals for my mcs and now i am fully regretting that decision. To my understanding, one can purchase light bulbs that do not have the amber color but shine bright orange when turned on, HOWEVER, one CANNOT purchase a clear lense that would replace the stock orange turn signal lense in the front of the cooper.
The only thing preventing me from doing the joey mod is that i dont think it will look good with the orange lense cover that i currently have. anyone know any alternative besides completely removing it?
thanks~!

anyone else having issues with their paint blistering? i plan on using the satin black krylon fusion with some krylon primer. I guess engine paint can solve this problem but it can still warp the plastic which is what i fear the most currently. ghosthound... hows that heat shield working out for you? any issues with the double sided foam melting?

thats weird... i guess its just luck. some people have had no problems with the joey mod, and others have said that the heat is so high that a heat shield is necessary...
at first i thought perhaps it might have been different brands of paint, but for the majority people are using the krylon fusion (with no sanding and no primer)
wonder if its nessesary to even sand down the surface with some steel wool and priming... im not an expert with this stuff but whats the point of purchasing krylon fusion if you are gonna coat the plastic with primer?
edit: did a test run on some clear plastic, one without primer and one with... def. a difference in coat eveness, and the one with primer looks a lot glossier than the one without.

Ok guys, just finished. Had a couple errors. On one, I rubbed the reflector portion too hard rubbing off the mirror finish. So that sucks. Anyone know a fix for that? Some type of mirror tape??? And I have smudges on the other one because I was afraid to wipe it down too much. How does everyone clean the smudges from the tape off the reflector portion???
like fingerprints? if so then yes.
