Interior/Exterior Sunroof Graphic - White/Clear Squares?
Sunroof Graphic - White/Clear Squares?
I'm looking for a checkered graphic for my sunroof that would mimic the OEM graphic. I have the OEM graphic, but it's already becoming an issue because it's composed of individual white squares, and the sunroof itself makes the black squares. 6 weeks old, and there are already some corners lifting up!
Anyway, it's my understanding that the after market checkered graphic is one solid sheet of vinyl (this would be good!), but is composed of white vinyl with black squares printed on it. Thus, it gives a stained glass look from inside. I really, really like the look of the OEM graphic from the inside of the car... the clear openings in the graphic look so sweet!
What I would love to find is someone that makes a roof graphic composed of a CLEAR vinyl background with WHITE squares printed on it. This would look identical to the OEM graphic without all of the edges!
Does anyone know if this is made by anyone, or can it be custom made?
Thanks!

Who did the install on your graphic? Sounds like it was not done correctly. I have some vinyl on my car that has been on there for over a year and there is no lifting of the corners. The one time I had a problem is when I had some text that came to a VERY acute point and that was something that was temporary for Halloween.
I have never had a 90 degree corner peel. You also can not wash the roof as you would if you did not have the vinyl, you must be way more careful.
You can have a perforated graphic made up by Mike from Aesthetic Creations, (check the vendor directory.) It will be white perforated vinyl that is printed with the black checker squares. I have never seen white and clear and not too sure how good it would look anyway.
Hope that this helps.

That sounds great, except that I really want to see the checkered pattern from the inside - and I won't be able to with the perforated graphic.
Also, when the sun shines outside, I get a checkered shadow on my floor, and I can see a checkered reflection in the stick shift - it just looks sweet to me.
I'm afraid that if I get the solid vinyl, I won't the checkered shadow or the reflection - that's why I thought a clear vinyl graphic with white squares would be perfect.
Here's another thought - could you put the OEM graphic on and overlay it with a nearly clear tint - or with the 3M protectant?

As thin as the antennas on the Sears Tower and Hancock building are. (less than 1/8" at the point,) they are not peeling back.

Dealer Installed...
I purchased it when I ordered my MINI. The graphic came from the factory, and was installed at the dealers.
I'm having them look at it this Friday - I guess I was just considering whether I should have them replace if with the same graphic, or if there will be on-going issues, should I get a solid graphic and have them install it (thus saving me the cost of installing a different graphic.

I say take it back to the dealer and make them re-do it. Then if it peels again make them re-do it again until they get it right. They should be made to stand behind their work. Any quality installer will warranty the install for X amount of time. If the vinyl is done correctly is is not easy to take off.
Good luck to you.

If not, can someone post pics from inside on one of the perforated full vinyl sheets?
Thanks!
Go to your local sign shop. If they do any vinyl at all they will have done something on a car. They can print a clear vinyl with checkers on it. They can install it in less than an hour [after the ink dries]. One piece, no lifting.
On another note...
Can somebody with perf take a picture of their sunroof from the inside so I can see if I want to do it. I like my blue stripes on the roof but I feel a little trapped in my car.

And I've seen a post with a perf white top with solid stripes.
well... The "sport stripes" came from my dealership on delivery, but the perforated sunroof graphic came from a sign shop that I worked at during the summer. I custom measured, chose the colour and installed myself (with help from friends at the sign shop). It took about 3/4 hour to peel the old sport stripes off and put the perforated vinyl down. Retail cost for the job would have been around $400 but I got the "Joe discount".
As it was explained to me when I got my roof graphic, the perforated vinyl has about half the lifespan of full vinyl. And it does required some specific care to help its lifespan.
Just keep that in mind when making the decision on which vinyl product is best for you.
