My family is watching American Idol this season since the beginning trying to cheer on a few contestants from Hawaii.

Tonight we saw Camile Velasco, an 18 year old from Maui who is a "pancake waitress".
She did a pretty good job with her song and sang in tune. The news said that in order for her to finish in the top 2 out of 8 she'd need about 2 million votes. The votes were counted for the two hours after the show aired tonight.
Tune in tomorrow night to find out which two made it to the next round.
Good luck Camile.

Hummmm. I'll have some pancakes.

From Camile's website...
Q. What other talents do you have?
A. N/A
Maybe I'll start watching. I thought that the best that they could serve up were the weird guys singing Ricky Martin and/or wearing Pooh costumes.

I didn't vote...but I've been watching regularly. I say that Camille is going on to the next round with the girl that sang "sweet thang". I can't remember her name.

Camile is in! - on to the next round but not by much. She got 27.8% of the popular vote while Matthew Rogers
got 27% and edged out Lisa Leuschner(I thought she was very good and was going to take second).

Lisa still has a chance to get one of the four wild card berths in a later show.

For an article in the Maui News-
http://www.mauinews.com/news/story/0...1mauis0218.asp

Go get them Camile! Thank you America for voting for Camile.

Good try Jonah,
Sorry to say Jonah Moananu didn't do well in his attempt to make the finals this week.
I thought he could have sung a better song- why not a Hawaiian tune? He's pretty good at rap!
Best of luck to him for trying for a wildcard slot in the future.

I heared Jasmine are far better than Camile, the problem is she might not make it looks though
all the good contestants are in her groups. Hoping for her best next Tuesday.

Next week we get to see and hear from Jasmine Trias the third of the Hawaii contestants left competing for a finalist spot. Word is that she is a strong singer. She will need to pick a really good song and go for it with confidence.

Q&A with Jasmine

Jasmine is 16 and lives in MINIlani! Go Jasmine.

Here is her song sample from a year ago

Jasmine sang tonight and got good reviews from the judges.
She just turned 17 and I thought she did pretty well.
Best of luck to her with the voting tonight.
The phone lines are pretty busy.

Tune in tomorrow night to see who makes the top two.

Oh, I do hope she does well....she sang great tonight.

Sheesh, my parents spent buku bucks on me getting trained in dance/piano/voice....and I don't even think I could make top 32 in my apartment building (and we only got 8 residents!!!!).

I think top three for the night was the guy George Huff (?) and the last girl and Jasmine. It'll be a close race, though, I think! Vote Vote Vote, Hawaii!!!!!

Congrats to Jasmine Trias and John Stevens who are 17 and 16 years old respectively.

Jasmine was really good. Being an "old" baby boomer I had to control myself from calling in 100 times & voting for her. She is a breath of fresh air. Good luck to the little "wahini" from Hawaii. Did I spell it right??

It's wahine. Why control yourself? Jasmine and Camille will need all the help they can get next round as they will be appearing on the same show!

Lois,
Please do vote for Jasmine or Camile if you like them. The call is no charge except for a cell phone if you are paying per call.

Hawaii is a small state of a little over a million people and we alone are not enough to do much to affect the outcome of voting. Americans all over the country will be voting and deciding who will move on and who will not.

Both our Hawaiian finalists are getting alot of support and press over here. We will do our best to cheer them both on.
I do know that Jasmine thinks highly of Camile and vice versa, they respect each other and cheer each other on.

I know my family will want to tune in to see how they all will do. We live in the same area of Hawaii as Jasmine. I haven't recognized her around my neighborhood though.

It is true. The judges agreed. But will the viewers agree?
Stay tuned tonight we will find out.

What I'd like to see is for those who could do better like Camile, fight back the nervousness and relax, have fun with the performance, and do as well as they can. In interviews Jasmine always says good things about Camile.

Interesting short clips they showed before each person sang.

AGree. Jasmine was awesome . . . one of a few that make you say "wow".
Camille I think has potential if she can loosen up. Song choice would help too.

Well we watched the show tonight and felt the little rememberance of Leah LaBelle at the end was pretty nice.
Best of luck to her.

Congrats to the 11 finalists left. Go Jasmine and Camile, give it your best!

I thought that Leah girl was pretty arrogant coz her mommy was a popstar in communist eastern Europe. At times I felt that she thought she was better than the rest of the competitors and thought she was more deserving of being there. Happy to see her go.

My prediction is that it's gonna be between Fantasia, and La Toya.

mini-t,

Thanks for this Contra costa times article.
At the end it states:
"What's on the release form the contestants sign?"

"According to TV Guide, a pretty stern warning: "Your appearance, depiction and/or portrayal in the Contest may be disparaging, defamatory, embarrassing or of an otherwise unfavorable nature, which may expose you to public ridicule, humiliation or condemnation."

------
They should take it all in stride and be happy they have got all this attention and TV time not to mention all this exposure, many people are looking and even the runner ups are going to have a shot at something.

In fact one could argue that the winners (top few) are in for a harder road- lots of AI commitments while the losers-those who may sing very well but be eliminated are not signed by AI but are released and free to be like William "She Bangs" Hung. That seems pretty good too.

Now my question is why is Clay Aiken getting all the exposure? He was the runner up for AI2 and Ruben Studdard was the winner. So where's Ruben?
