This looks to be it for the GP2.

Multifunction Steering Wheel Pads/ Wires Black part #32309289676

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/32309289676/

&

Switch Unit / Wiper Stalks Part #61319253769

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/61319253769/

Its will then have to be flashed by a MINI dealership or someone who can do it.

I always thought it would be cool if someone added the MINI Goodwood pads to match the gloss piano black of the airbag and the dash of the GP2.

Multifunction Steering Wheel Pads/ Wires Gloss Black Part #61319284595

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/61319284595/

And then will need the matching gloss black lower pad insert.

Thanks

Would anyone be able to offer remote coding for this? My dealer is a P.I.T.A when it comes to things like this... they even told me they wouldn't fit daytime running lights on my GP2

Hey guys, just took my wheel off and was looking around, the column in the GP already had the plug on the right for the steering wheel control buttons, I got a used column (the clock spring is broken from the wheel being free spinning) and it has the same plugs front and rear, is something really different inside them to make the cruise not work with the factory column? Or is it built into the stalks and I could just swap them. I just can't understand what is actually different...

Good question, when you finally work it out and get it working could you please put some photos up as every aftermarket cruise control specialist is telling us it can't be done, except for way, and I've emailed them but no response unfortunately. I might have to put a crapy looking aftermarket kit in.

hi guys....did anyone ever find out what truly needs to be done? I have been researching for a while and have read many threads on various boards all saying different things.

I have read we need the MFSW controls and a clockspring with or without stalks and just have it coded. I have read the above but also needs a wiring harness that people have only found in junk yards off of cars...

So is there any definitive answer? HELP?>! thanks!

Thanks, on the Way Motor Works website it says 2007 and up...
I just realized my 2006 is a generation 1 vehicle? If that is the case, I guess it is different for GEN 1 and GEN 2 cars...so what might work for an 07 won't for an 06....hmmmm I can't find much information on doing this for GEN 1 cars without some sort of wiring harness. I assume my 06 doesn't have the correct clock spring for the cruise control wiring....I will have to take the airbag off and see what is under there. back to the drawing board

Yes the Gen 1 and Gen 2 kits are totally different. The Gen one kit requires a complete wiring harness which is a huge pain to install as I've done it twice.

We keep the Gen 2 kits in stock. The Gen 2 car already had the plug on the SZL, but installing and programming it won't work (I tried). The SZL hardware has to be replaced, then programmed.

Thanks for the clarification! Much appreciated. During my research, all I saw people doing was going to the salvage yard and pulling the harness out of a Mini with Cruise control...then making it work. Does anyone sell an aftermarket harness that will do the job on a GEN 1 car? Thanks again...

since someone brought this thread back from the dead - yes, the insides are different. the pins from that plug don't have the matching plug in the circuit board inside. (I took pics, somewhere...).

If you wanted to keep the same housing for some reason, you could probably swap the stalk and the board from another unit...but still have to tell the car about the cruise and reset things.

..david (who did the retrofit w/ used parts, on another thread, and did take his apart to see why..)

anyway to put just the radio controls in and leave the right side blank? or do both need to be plugged in for the radio controls to work?

if you dont want the cruise buttons, just leave that pad out - no issues with that. you won't need to recode to add cruise, either, and the stereo controls will just work as I recall. (will still need the column switch unit though, and you'll need to default that module and calibrate the steering angle sensor..)

i was hoping the keep the GP windshield wiper stalk since we don't have a rear wiper but it looks like if i want the radio buttons on the wheel i'd have to give up the GP wiper stalk

easy to open the new SZL up and swap the wiper stalk. It'll fit, and I think it should "work" - I've got a rear wiper delete delete in mind, myself. Easy enough to test. I looked at doing it but didn't try it.

but the GP's SZL (column switch/angle sensor/module) doesn't have the header on the board for the wheel switches to plug into. it has the physical interface, but no header.

you -might- be able to get away with building your own header on the board, but.......you'd be much safer with another SZL.

MFSW Retrofit - Programing

My dealer in Denver (Schomp) was happy to do the parts swapping and programming. They were as cooperative as one could possibly hope for. They got my parts and installed them last Saturday and said they would be able to program it on Monday after getting the proper, GP specific, software settings from the engineers at MINI Central.

Much to our collective dismay, the MINI engineers refused to provide modified GP software to activate the MFSW controls. They practically said, "You're on your own. You might be able to find someone to program it for you but you can kiss the warrantee goodby"

So much for MINI's encouragement of "Youification"........

So maybe your dealer isn't being as difficult as it seems. They may have already bumped into the brick wall of the engineers at MINI Central.

So.... if you were able to get your GPs MFSW programmed, at a dealer or otherwise, please share your experience.

Urg.

Someone knows how to add a new code to the Vehicle Order (VO) - all they need to add is $249 (that's not dollars) and reset everything.

Tell them to treat it just like they would adding satellite radio (VO $655) or adding the CD changer (dont have the code on hand - thought I did..)

Or head over to the various BMW forums and find someone in your area who understands NCS Expert (or other tools) well.

See https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-complete.html for my success thread.

Get it to Orlando and I'll do it for free.

Thanks KEEN, good information. I'll share it with the guys at the dealer. It's greek to me but may mean something to the guy who does the programing.

PS I'll be in Orlando in November but it's a long drive from Colorado so I'll be flying in. :(

Latest word from my dealer is promising. The folks at MINI Central are sending a new set of code for my GP2 that will include functionality for the MFSW. Fingers crossed.

I'm sorry to report that, after much dedication and effort, they were not able to get the hardware and software to play well with each other.

Because other folks do have GPs with operational multi-function steering controls, I suspect that the problem here is that the folks at MINI Central were not very interested in making it work. Grrrrrr.
