GP MFSW retrofit complete!
Installed my MFSW retrofit in #0425 today. Picked up a leather JCW wheel on ebay w/ switches ($250) (planned on a wheel swap anyway - not into the extra thick padding on the GP wheel), and a blinker/wiper switch from a countryman (SZL part #61313453991, $165).
Simple swap - fought my ICAN cable though with random errors when it was getting hot, but the next day everything went ok.
Just doing a SG_RESET on the SZL wasn't enough to get everything working - had to add $249 (MFSW) to the VO, FA_WRITE the VO to CAS and FRM, then ended up doing a SG_RESET on everything - remember it's not just the SZL, since the rest of the car needs to know that cruise should work...
So 425 now has cruise! And steering wheel control for the stereo! And a decent steering wheel.
btw - pulled both the new (used) and the GP's SZL apart - and sure enough, the header between the clockspring and the circuit board that the MFSW switches should connect to the board through is missing. If one really wanted to keep the stock switch, you might be able to add a header for it...certainly the module will accept a MFL aktiv, so the rest of the electronics might be there. Or just switch the physical wiper stalk over. If I dont do a rear wiper retrofit, I might do swap the stalk.......
And no, I didn't get pictures of the missing header. Sigh. It's sitting on the shelf, so I could if someone needs it...

I put the same column in this weekend. I didnt code it yet but the stereo controls work already. Cant wait, need to get my coding laptop working again. Just having the stereo controls is amazing. I have missed that greatly.
Pleeeease!
Ok. I get the hardware changes necessary. No problem. I can do that.
The big question tho is; Who can do the programming in or near AZ?
This car wants to go fast. I need cruise to stay outta jail.
My dealer won't even try. Everyone I've seen on NAM that can do it is too far away.

Oh yeah?
Is he someone you know?
Only by reputation and exchanging a few messages recently. He is a GP2 owner as well, and has modded and serviced several GP2s in the Phoenix area. You'll be in good hands.

Just wanted to say thanks! But need to mention you must use a szl that is dsc and no rain sensor.
61313453991 worked for me ✌🏼
If using other szl $521 rain sensor must be added to VO to prevent ista/p szl conflict (learned the hard way)

Did you install the 61313453991 and the stereo controls works plug and play or what did you do?

I have 07 MCS that came without MFSW, I have replaced SZL and added buttons to the steering wheel. Radio controls worked right away so then I added $249 to the CAS and FRM and did SG_RESET on every module and cruise control still doesn't work, when I press cuise control buttons nothing happens.
Help
Hello everybody,
I'm new to this forum and new the Mini Cooper world. I am exploring the possibilities to get MFSW for my R60 Countryman 2014.
I tested a BMW MFSW steering wheel on my R60 but nothing worked (not radio buttons nor cruise control), I believe these have to be coded or something like that.
So far I have no idea how the coding works or what is needed for it. Can anyone here please explain what is needed for the coding and if there's any guide?
Many thanks in advance.

If you want to DIY, start searching NAM (and other mini/bmw groups) for NCSExpert.
I promise you, once you've gotten your hands on NCSExpert and gotten it running, the first post in this tread will make a lot more sense - so go back and read that afterwards.
also good reading (from my notes, I haven't gone back to look at them)

I finally got this completed today on my GP2 that I bought last year. I bought a new SZL 61319253769 and the control pads. Installing the hardware was straightforward, I had to set the steering angle sensor using my Foxwell scan tool. With the scan tool I also verified that the buttons were active so I knew the installation was OK. An interesting note, RealOEM says the GP2 SZL part number is 61319253777, the one that I took out says 61319253773 which according to RealOEM and the internet doesn't exist.
The coding process with NCSExpert wasn't as easy as many of the posts and internet videos make it appear. First I created some headaches for myself by not remembering all the steps to update the DATEN (copying SGDAT and ECU files to C:\NCSEXPER\SGDAT and C:\EDIABAS\ECU respectively,) my fault.
Once I got that straightened out I was able to update the vehicle order (in NCSExpert this is the FA) with $249. The interface in NCSExpert gives you a list of the available options, but clicking on one does not add it to the VO, you have to manually type it into the little ADD window. Such a clunky UI. Then modify job to FA_WRITE and Process ECU, change ECU to FRM and FA_WRITE again.
After that I tried to default program (SG_CODIEREN) the SZL, it failed the first time and the error messages (translated by Google) were not very useful. So took the computer upstairs, scratched my head for a while and used NCSdummy to look at the logs, couldn't figure out what was wrong, slept on it, tried in the morning, and it worked. OK now I was getting somewhere! But the Cruise light wasn't coming on in the big center speedometer. More headscratching and research, found a post where someone said they had to default the KOMBI as well. So I tried that and got a bunch of not useful errors again. Repeat the scratch head, research, sleep on it, try again process and this time it worked. I'm guessing it is errors in the interface for some reason. Another thing I learned along the way is when you start a new NCSExpert session, you can't go directly to coding/programming modules, you have to read the FA first.
After the successful SG_CODIEREN to the KOMBI I did an SG_RESET of the KOMBI, turned the car off and back on, and now the Cruise light is coming on. Time for a test drive, thanks to all who figured out the process and posted how to do it.
