Stranger things have happened and this would qualify as an accidental leak lol

Troll. Ooh. You got me. I clicked the link thinking it was more GP MINI info and it was a Ford. Let me guess: The next link will be for a Chevy Cobalt SS?

So your point is that the MINI is overpriced and we should all complain to BMW and hope that they lower their prices, or that we should bail on being MINI owners and buy a Ford Focus?

Why are you still here trying to make MINI owners feel disappointed with their purchases (or potential ones)?

Of course MINIs are relatively overpriced, of course there are other cars with better performance. It's been this way for 10 years and isnt about to suddenly change.

But there is much more to MINI ownership than bragging rights. That is not what it is about.

This is the GP2 thread, and that is what we are here to discuss.

Wow, well I wish I had a magic stick and have MINI use this 256 horsepower version of their PSA engines for the GP.

Kurtster, I'm just trying to save you some money. If you want a Gen.2 GP, just wait two or three years and buy one at half price! Otherwise, you're going to buy one at list and watch half your money depreciate before your eyes.

I wish it would have the BMW N20 2.0 liter but that's just a pipe dream

I'd go put down a deposit right this moment if it did

Half? The first gen GP didn't depreciate hardly at all...bought mine 6 years after introduction with 35k miles, only a $7k reduction from original MSRP.

I'd venture to say the 2nd-gen takes a little harder hit, but you're not going to see that bad of depreciation.

I bought my '04 MCS for $31k. I sold it this year with 161k miles on it for $8k. I feel like I got my money's worth out of it. I never thought I'd have any car with 161k miles on it that could sell for more than $5k but I was pleasantly surprised at how many people were interested.

Considering the desirability of the GP model, I would expect at least similar, if not better, depreciation than what I experienced with my last one.

Problem with this is the power the engine puts out the chassis cant handle it. Take a look at the Top Gear test of bonkers hot hatches. One had some much power you would enter a corner and turn the wheel aaaand nothing. The car wouldnt turn. Poor chassis with to much power.

Im not saying the Mini has a poor chassis but a certain point the car cant handle the power thrown at it.

The MINI chassis can EASILY handle 256bhp, especially the GP

Yeah, the current chasis has the torsional rigidity equal to my M5 and that has 500hp so there goes that argument.

I think they were trying to say the front wheel drive chassis will have problems with that much power and still handle well.

Oh I see. I'd be more concerned in the delivery of that power rather than what it tops out at.

I was able to spend quite a bit of time with the GP Concept at MINI Takes The States and I have to say I am very impressed with the speed and aerodynamics of the new GP. I am very familiar with the 06 GP (I have 2) and the GP Concept just blows it away!!! WOW!!

Deposit down on the first one at my dealership.

I was going back and forth between a several year old GT3 and this.. But I'm lusting after this car so hard.

Everyday I hunt for a bit more info.

I was sent this video:

http://www.videos.com/play/M39213272

I wish we knew more about the interior. I've never sat on the Mini Recaro seats - I'm curious about them.

My last mini was an '06 MCS Convertible, can't wait to get this one.

Also, anyone know how hard it is to 'install' or somehow add 2 seats to the back? The wife is bringing that up as her biggest grip and trying to convince us to get the JCW convertible.

I hear ya. I had an '04 MCS.

Ack! Two things in that video that I didn't like: Priced "well above $40k" and "Next year". I need a car for winter and I thought these were coming in November/December. COuld spell bad news for my prospect of ownership.

I won't miss the back seats (I hate playing taxi) but I'm really bummed that it appears that the MINI Connected with NAV isn't like to be included. I'll learn to live without it. Maybe your wife will get used to no back seats?

Yea, I'm in the same place with that "well over 40' - I've heard lots of conflicting info, so I'm hoping this is just another guess... but they DID have a 52k Goodwood.....

If it's near 45k, I'm likely out. I'm expecting to be out about 40k, I won't do too much more.

I'd also like to have that Mini Connect - I hear it's great. I heard the last GP didn't have A/C in some cars?

Can't wait for more leaks/ vids. Does anyone have a loose-lipped contact at corpo?

I'd bet its right around $41-42k

In all honesty, if you have are considering a GT3 (I'm assuming a 996, as you said its older)....I'd pick the GT3 hands down. Even if its a 996 GT3, its still a serious machine...I'd take one in a heartbeat!

Don't expect it to have MINI Connect. This car has racing/performance in mind, not convenience.

A car this low for winter driving...all I can think of is a snow plow. I have a close friend who's MINI is this low and has the aero kit, he bumper was ripped off when driving in snow because there was some sort of rut/debri in the road he didn't see.
