Does anyone know what the delivery event consists of? I rarely buy new cars and have never bought a limited edition like this one before. Would be VERY excited if it was something fantastic!

The numbers between the two cars are very close except the 06' had a 7150 red line and the GPII is 6500 (?) And I think the 06 GP had a 0-60 time of 6.3 seconds with a 149mph top speed.
You prob could take an 06 GP, put a 17% SCP on it, delete the center resonator and will have even better numbers than that since the stock pulley on the GP is about 11%.
Prob about the only thing the new GP will do better over the old one is better gas mileage and lower emissions....

I think once beyond an inch of adjustment one would have to have adj end links for the bars and adj rear cont arms. And an alignment would be in order after each adjustment from one extreme to the other. So they probably maxed out with this adjustment at under an inch.

They are set up in a inverted fashion unlike other MINI's. The range of adjustment is appx. 7/8 of an inch., manually done frm the bottom.

I called the number and inquired about two items: whether or not I can get the same number as our '06 GP, and details on the special delivery option. The lady I spoke with did not have any info on the special delivery details, and after confirming with someone in MINI the GP numbers have not been confirmed either.
The 1800 number will be opened up to the public after the 15th, and apparently there are still quite a few cars available so far.

So you mean there will be no build numbers on the roof?? This makes me sad...

I was told that they'll ask what your '06GP number is when you place your deposit, and that if you'll want the same one *IF* they decide to go through with it. If it's confirmed that there are no roof numbers, then there's no point for us to get one now.

Exactly, I was thinking there was still a hesitation about the numbers but coming more from a styling point not a cultural issue.

When they finally put some meat on the bone with 260+BHP engine, larger turbo/intercooler, an individual aero kit design/rear glass ( instead of wiper delete plug) I will place my deposit....
Sacrificing HP for MPG on the limited Edition GP ?
Would you imagine for just a moment what would have happened if Carroll Shelby had gone that route ?
Maybe this is what happens when number crunchers "build" a car instead of a real car guy.....

Kind of sadly, I gave up my GPII order yesterday. I asked for and received my dealer's first allocation several months ago, and the sales manager called yesterday to confirm I still wanted it and to charge my credit card for a refundable deposit.
Alas, just one month ago today I purchased a new 2012 Porsche 991 and just can't commit to the MINI right now. I told him that depending on tax time, etc, I might be able to justify it when they arrive in March, but didn't feel like I should "hoarde" his only unit that I potentially might back out on when the time comes.
I still want it but just don't know what my exact financial position will be then. I think it will be the best MINI ever (and I've had both R53's and R56's), but I might just have to wait a year or so to purchase a second car. The consolation prize is I get to drive around in a new 911 until I can decide.
PS: Although he said they had had other inquiries about the GPII, from what I gathered, he had not made a "list" so their car is now up for grabs. He told me if it's unsold when it arrives he will let me know.

Test Drive Review GPII
Gabriel Bridger of MotoringFile posted a very good write up documenting his recent GPII test drive at the Circuito Mallorca RennArena in Spain. His article and follow-up comments describes an exceptionally well balanced car -- a highly agile and quick track performer that drives equally well on the street.
