This is interesting I was told there will be no Build Numbers for this GP. I put a case to Mini for build numbers for the Goodwood. I was told not even the GP would be getting them. I would like it if you can confirm that build numbers will be issued. If this is the case then I rocket to launch up the corporate bum of Mini/BMW.

My guess is Mini has just started a sh*t fight by doing this for only one market. I will raise this with GP buyers in Australia.

That's the same she told me when I ordered mine. I also selected the US delivery option. Now just to wait.

I do! And I frequently tell people to go to your site when they ask where I buy parts.

Think you will bring the GP to MOTD this year?

Dunno sounds like some MA-BS to me.

When she asked if you wanted the "same numbe"r from your 06' GP on the GPII, that alone should have sent up a few red flags....

Roof Numbers for GP = Genuine Production Numbers.

Roof Number for GP II = Made up number aka: non-Production Number.

If this were true, they are making a mockery of the production numbers game, my 2 pence. Maybe someone forgot about this little tid-bit during production phase....

I believe the roof #'s for the original GP were randomly selected and did not designate production #'s.

Wouldn't a current GP owner be able to look at their VIN to see if it matches the roof #? I thought the VIN had something to with the production...

I'm with gRaY rAvEn on random roof #'s. It should be tied to the production line and if previous GP owners want the same # then that may just affect delivery date? I'm no expert on production details, mind you.

They were assembled in Bertone Italy - only the prefix YB in the VIN is consistent with the GP's.

As far as I know, the numbers GP0001-GP2000 were assigned as the coach builders put them together...IMO makes the GP limited editon numbered, and not just some numbers randomly made up.

The numbers had meaning, recognizable and easily identifed them among the other owners providing the ability to track country destination or it's untimely demise to a junk yard.

No two sets of numbers were the same...

Roster GP Owners/Roof Number

I have been currently researching GP's, (since I'm in the market for an '06.) What I have found is that the roof number does go up chronologically (not random) according to production #, but the VIN number is specific to the US only. Meaning that the VIN range is YB72001-YB72415.

This is interesting. Never heard or thought of this. Mine is the highest # in the US ( 1996 ), one on the last shipment, and my vin is 2415.. #0808 came in with mine, whats your last 4 of vin Stu?

I actually found this out 2 days ago by mistake. I was building a spreadsheet of GP's for sale by roof # and when I started recording the VIN numbers, I noticed that they went in order. My OCD was actually good for something this time..

Put a deposit down, I would be interested in what additional options are available.

There will be none - I contacted my Mini dealer rep and he confirmed, after corresponding with Mini, that the USA cars have been preconfigured and will not be offered with any additional options. (I was interested in Mini Connect but it won't be doable because there are no rear speakers in the GP and placement and weight constraints for the amp make it a non-started - disappointed but I understand and accept their rationale).
