How would my GP sound without the resonator
I tried the GP without the resonator and did not like the result. I liked the overall loudness of the exhaust, without the resonator, but did not like the snap of the deacceleration pop. Here is a link on the GP Forum that addresses your question. I posted before and after videos within the thread.

I purchased the resonator eliminator pipe from Peter at MyMiniParts.com but there were some issues with the elimnator pipe installation on the GP. These comments were in the other post but I have summarized my comments here so you do not need to read through the other post.
In general, I was not happy with the eliminator pipe for installation and sound reasons but I believe that it is still a good option for many people.
1. The pipe is really designed for the dealer installed JCW exhaust with the slip joint. For the GP a extension pipe is included with the eliminator pipe. This creates two slip joints with clamps. Both of my slip joints leaked no matter what I did with the clamps. I had a muffler shop weld everything together instead of using the clamps. I have discussed the issue with Peter at myminiparts and he is working on a design change that might already be available, so I would call and discuss the GP installation with Peter.
2. Even though you must cut the GP exhaust to install the eliminator pipe, the provided eliminator pipe and extra extension are not long enough to replace the compressed area of the GP exhaust. I had a muffler shop make a longer extension pipe for the eliminator pipe that replaced the provided extension pipe and thus I was able to remove the compressed part of the GP exhaust.
There are a few advantages of buying the pipe $135 from myminiparts.com and having a shop weld it on.
1. The pipe has the flange for bolting to the exhaust just after the cat. The flange is already installed at the correct angle.
2. The pipe has the hangers for the middle exhaust mount. Again, already at the correct location/angle.
3. Since I had the eliminator pipe, my muffler shop only charged $28 to cut the stock exhaust, make a extension piece (that replaced the kinked/compressed portion of stock pipe), and weld everything together.
Note: Peter at myminiparts is aware of the installation problems that I had on my GP so if he knows you are trying to weld the pipe on a GP, he might discount the pipe price because he does not need to include clamps or the extenstion piece. I would talk to him before you decide.
I would not plan to clamp the pipe onto the GP because of the high chance for a leak and you still have the kink/compressed section of stock pipe.
On the other side of the decision.
I am sure a muffler shop, that does custom work, can cut out the resonator and weld in a straight pipe for about $50-$75. The only trick is keeping the flange and middle hangers at the correct angles and locations when welding in the straight pipe. The disadvantage with this approch is that it does not remove the kink/compressed section of pipe, near the Y for the mufflers. Of course the muffler shop could also replace that section. Probably for another $25-$50. Thus, if you know of a custom exhaust shop, they can probably remove the resonator and kinked/compressed section for around $100-$125. Probably ends up being a little cheaper than buying the pipe (unless you can get a discount) and having it welded onto your exhaust. Removing the kinked/compressed section probably does not gain any performance but once I saw the compressed area (in an otherwise nice exhaust), I had to remove the section.
The other sound issue that I did not like with the JCW exhaust (with or without the resonator) is the loud whoosh noise (vacuum cleaner type noise) from the exhaust at WOT about 6000 RPM.
Personnally, I could not get happy with the JCW exhaust and I wasted money trying. Depending on how important exhaust tone is to you, you might want to purchase a different exhaust. In my opinion, the stock JCW exhaust is too quite and the non-resonator JCW exhaust snaps too much with the GP ECU programming. I am currently using a Borla Sport (that I had from a past Mini) but it is a little loud for my wife so I am looking at other options.

Here is a good link to the GPMini forum where a GP owner just posted his mod to the JCW exhaust. You might need to register to view. If you are not already registered on that forum it is a good GP forum to join.

Peter
You might have a nuts gene goin on there, road looked a little icey and wet and cold? You runnin the runflats at that speed with all those trees fences and rivers so close to the roadway??
You so crazy

Yeah, could be, I have wondered about that ! But, I did drive the road immediately before that filmed run to inspect the pavement. No ice on the road, plenty in the river!, just a bit wet, and things were warming up that day into the upper 40s, so.....away we went! Stock runflats still were working ok - hit about 90 on the final section. I do drive that little piece of road pretty frequently, so am very familiar with it.
