Zippy.....actually Zippy 2....my wife named it....zippy was a Honda crx.... (named by her of-course) and when she sat in the back during the test drive she was like "Wow....now this is zippy!!!". Hence the reuse of an non-origional nickname, that stuck and is still pretty cute!

I picked up my 2010 Cooper S Saturday afternoon and since my wife and I are huge Arsenal fans, he got the name "GOONER". For anyone who doesn't know, part of Arsenal's logo is a cannon and they call themselves the Gunners which gets turned into Gooners.. The name seems to fit him.

I picked up a BRG MCS this past Saturday. I thought it was female, as I'm female, but he says he's not a girl. I've been [darkly] dreaming of a Mini for years. His name is Dexter.

He's a lean green Mini machine, my BRG MCS~W. I had him for less than 3 hours when he let me know his name is Dexter.

Sticks and stones

I just bought an Electric Blue Mini...so her name is "Electra".

She will be parked next to "Hobbes" our Sunbeam Tiger (named from the comic Calvin & Hobbes) in our garage.

Electra will replace my current daily driver known as the "Silver Bullet" (Ford Focus wagon) next spring.

And for some reason our son named my wife's Focus wagon..."Bluey Schmooie" (the car is blue)...after our cat who is named "Wakiza" (or sometimes "Kiza" for short) but goes by the nickname of "The Schmooie"

The wagons are each sometimes referred to as the "Love Wagon" or "War Wagon" depending on how they are running or whether my wife and I are getting along at the time.

Following all this?

Paul

This doesn't really go with the thread, but I thought it was cute anyway. We took Winston03 to a family reunion in August. We pulled down in front of the house to park. A little boy, about 5 years old, walked slowly towards us, pointing, and repeating "T h a t 's a M I N I". Later on, I took him and his Dad around the circle in front of the house 4 times and you would have thought I'd given him a Million bucks. BTW, his girlfriend's last name is Cooper.

I named mine Tüi. I came up with this because my first MINI was named Stewy. I kept calling my new order Stewy 2, then thought naming him twoie (second Stewy), but I didn't like how it was spelled or how it looked. So to be unique, I have Tüi.

My baby's name is "Aethelflaed" after the BA English woman ruler/warrior from the 700s. I call her "Aethel" for short (pronounced like Ethel)

Those are two great names. Have read a bit on the Saxon period in England. Wasn't Aethelflaed daughter to Alfred?

And Fiona wold seem to fit nicely with the car's appointments.

Well I wonder if there's one for license plates, by state, that are on Minis. I suppose that's really looking for too much! Would be nice. I wanted to get a plate and just wondering what's taken. I would make the name I choose be the same as the license plate.

Hey, my MINI's name is a whole lot older then the Dark Ages! One translation even matches his color. Snarky snark.

I've never been one to name my cars, but a MINI has too much personality to ignore. At first I thought Cecil would be a great name (as in Cecil Cooper, of course) -- something sophisticated and British-sounding, yet also sporty.

Well, that didn't really take, but after about 5 months our R53 decided it wanted to be called, of all things... MINIKINS!

As my wife says, this is like putting a bulldog in a spiked collar and naming it Fluffy, but the name seems to have stuck.

According to Merriam-Webster:

Main Entry: min·i·kin
Pronunciation: \ˈmi-ni-kən\
Function: noun
Etymology: obsolete Dutch minneken darling, ultimately from Middle Dutch minne love, beloved; akin to Old English gemynd mind, memory
Date: 1761
: a small or dainty creature
... seems appropriate enough, in a mildly ironic fashion. (Small, yes; dainty? I don't think so!)

"The Minikins" also seems to have been a short-lived childrens' TV show in Canada in the early '80s.

Is there a site or thread that lists names of mini's that people have already chosen?
+1 on this query/suggestion

I've had my 06 Chilli Red MCS for 3 weeks now. My wife first commented that the car looked like a couple of Duplo blocks. (Ya gotta have kids, or have been one, to relate). Did not think "Duplo" was the correct name, although it is kind of appealing.

Anyway, the car reminded me of the bright red wagon I had as a kid, you know, the Little Red Wagon from Radio Flyer. Little Red Wagon was not it either, but looking at Radio Flyer, I came up with RuFus. So RuFus it is!

Identity Crisis

After a few months of driving, our little guy decided to be called Frisky and got a plate on his stubby li'l butt to prove it. Now the state has decided that there can only be one of a personal plate in the state and not by county as in the past and he is losing his name. We haven't had the heart to tell him yet and only have until January to do something about it.

Well that may not be a bad thing. When I think of Frisky i think of canned cat food (Friskies). And on a "pop-top" silver car, you may wish to go another way
