All this talk about the Italian Job and "Stella" is really making me think about changing "Lucy" to "Stella" I think I will have to see what strikes me when I finally get her....

What one won't do for grand-daughters!

Naming cars has always seemed like a dumb thing to do. However, when my grand-daughters(age 6 & 7) asked me how to say "small" in Spanish, they came up with the name "Chico" for my Mini. I can live with that.

We named our Pepper White Sooper because my wife says that all the time, and because it rhymes with Cooper.

We named our Hot Chocolate Lucky because we love the Napoleon Dynamite movie, and because my wife reminds me all the time how lucky I am to have her. Lucky is even inscribed on our wedding rings.

Tim, do you have wedding pics in your MINI's?

That Hot Chocolate sounds great

I have not named my mini yet! I'm just going to wait until I see his/her "personality" when I get it!

If it's a boy I'm thinking Petey
and
If it's a girl I'm thinking Sky

I have been through a bunch of cars and never named any of them.
They have always been girls though. Not sure why but that's the way it has always been.

I kinda felt like my "new to me" 06 MCS AB/B was a guy.
Two nights ago I was telling my wife how everyone names their cars and I would never do that.

I pick up my license plates today: GNK*805

HIS new name is Gunk!

Kinda fitting for AB/B I think!

Ty

I never really had a name for my MINI, I kind of called it the Mach 5 but its not white so that really doesn't fit.
So I have decided that I will call it DILLIGAD.

Go out to the garage late at night and lay you hand on the center of the hood, close your eyes and hum, "ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmm." After a few minutes, the name will come to you.

Or not.

Gollum

My Mini S became Gollum when the JCW kit went on, because my father read me Lord of the Rings in 1968, before we owned a TV.

So I know that Gollum started out as a nice fella named Smeagol, and only became Gollum due to circumstances.

So Gollum is Smeagol around town, with good mileage - and Gollum on the AutoX course with the smell of hot brakes and rubber...

Cheers,

Charlie

Ps: this is how i know i am not a REAL racer! REAL racers do not give their cars names as far as i know... :-)

Oh real racers give their cars names all right... most are able to be spelled by pressing <shift> and a lot of number keys!

Or, they rhyme with "bat sod gam space bar"...

What Grandpa's won't do for their grand daughters

I, too, consider naming cars rather silly. However, when my grand-daughters, 6 and 7, requested that we name the Mini, I maintained a veto power over what they came up with. They asked me how to say 'little' in Spanish. I told them pequeno, but then the word for 'small' seemed more appropriate. Thus, we have a Mini named Chico. What we won't do for our grand-daughters

Well, she can dance a Cajun rhythm, jump like a *****'s in four wheel drive.
She's a summer love in the spring, fall and winter. She can make happy any man alive.

Sugar magnolia, ringing that bluebell, caught up in sunlight, come on out singing
I'll walk you in the sunshine, come on honey, come along with me.

She's got everything delightful, she's got everything I need,
A breeze in the pines in the summer night moonlight, crazy in the sunlight yes indeed.

Sometimes when the cuckoo's crying, when the moon is half way down,
Sometimes when the night is dying, I take me out and I wander around, I wander 'round.

Sunshine, daydream, walking in the tall trees, going where the wind goes
Blooming like a red rose, breathing more freely,
Light out singin', I'll walk you in the morning sunshine
Sunshine, daydream. Sunshine, daydream. Walking in the sunshine.

Decisions, decisions.
UPDATE: HoneyRyder it is, by a 2-1 split vote. As an olive branch to the losing faction, we are designating "Sugar Magnolia" as our theme song. Every MINI should have a theme song.

Congratulations. Hopefully, she'll come around. My wife doesn't drive. She's driven (by me). A month into ownership, I can see the surprised exasperation she feels, closer to our too short spring, just like our theme song says:

Sunshine, daydream, walking in the tall trees, going where the wind goes
Blooming like a red rose, breathing more freely,
Ride our singin, Ill walk you in the morning sunshine
Sunshine, daydream. sunshine, daydream. walking in the sunshine.

I did it! After weeks of deliberations, Sally has a name. My friend suggested it and it just sort of stuck.

Oblio just won't do..

In the continuing ( But friendly ) battle of the sexes, I've countermanded my sweetheart's clever naming and declared my Mini to be "Hawthorne", after my favorite cartoon character in the "Sherman's Lagoon" strip. He's a small fellow that could manage get you into trouble quickly if you don't have your head about you..

I chose Clara after perusing a British baby names website. It means "clear" or "pure" or "white", depending on the language, and I love ballet and Clara is the heroine in the Nutcracker!

I wanted to name my Mini right away and named him Ringo immediately. After getting to drive him a little bit (yes he's a guy, just has that attitude), I decided to change his name. I changed it to Sergi, after the lead singer of one of my favorite bands mentioned the name. Sergi fits him perfectly. Also, since Sergi has no finite meaning, it means he is mysterious , again... fits him perfectly.

Well originally I didn't have a name for my MINI and so it went for some time, until one day
I looked at my MINI and said to her "All the other MINI's seem to have a name...Would you like a name?".
The look I got back from her said it all and so it was that my MINI was named DILLIGAD..

September through March, the MINI didn't have a name. It was just "the MINI".

I mentioned to my Wife that most MINIs have names, and shouldn't we name ours? She immediately suggested "Rygel". So Rygel it is.
