When to walk away from your R55

I didn’t get a PPI. Here’s my story.

2010 R55, 99K.

These items had been done by previous owner:
Timing Chain (24K,2 year warranty)
O2 sensor, both
New brake rotors, pads
Valve Cover Gasket
Thermostat Housing
MAF sensor

Since I’ve had the car, I’ve done these DIY items with help from friends. (I can do an oil change and swap sensors that are easily accessed)

MAP sensor
Shocks / Struts (Blistein B4’s)ECS Cup Kit
2nd Key (only key is failing)
New right rear control arm

Local Mini Mechanic has done these items:
Valve Cover Gasket (said maybe other one wasn’t OEM) Oil Leal #1
Vacuum Pump, Oil Leak #2
Coolant Flush
Coolant Sensor
Tires

Went to the dealer to see if they would replace my FRM under warranty as I get a few error codes from BimmerLink, but they said it has to fail to replace and they said I have 2 other Oil Leaks which are way over my head and I kinda used up my friend credits with the shocks. They wanted $1500 for these two leaks, there’s two import mechanics in town but not sure if I could get both fixed for maybe $800?

Oil Filter Housing Gasket
Front Crank Seal

1st local mechanic also says I need to also look at thermostat housing again, no CEL codes but I get the 2F07 code from BimmerLink saying my car runs too cold.

Then Bimmer link also shows these codes that aren’t throwing an error yet.

How many more oil leaks could there be if I sink another $800-1000 into this car.

shoulda bought a Gen3.

Thoughts?

Quite a distance. Personally, I think it's not bad of DIY. For the oil filter housing, you need to move few things out of the way but still doable. Not sure if you know but newtis.info has great write ups and procedures.

Thanks! I really appreciate the interest. Yes I read heard about newtis.info

Anything else on the N12 engine that I should replace since newtis talks about getting car in service position and pulling some of the front end off?

might be a couple of weeks until I can get help to do it, I don’t see any oil on the ground. I normally check oil once a week but will check everyday (it’s my daily driver). Last oil change was 1500 miles and I’ve only added about 1/2 qt.

How many more oil leaks might my future hold?

Oil can leak from the following areas:
Front main seal
Rear main seal
Oil pan
Oil filter housing
Oil pressure switch sensor
Vacuum Vacuum
Valve cover
Even the pcv pipe could leak if not sealed tight.

Valve stem seals can leak into the cylinder and start burning oil.

Not necessarily, these are the possible areas of leak. Some minis fail more than others. Hopefully yours stops misbehaving soon

I may need some help with getting a shopping list together.

You guys fix oil leaks?

Joking aside, I wouldn't walk away from a car over oil leaks. Especially after having fixed all the heavy stuff.
