Dropped a tool into engine, now what

I was replacing timing chain on my R56 Mini cooper S, N-18. Well I was chasing a thread on the vlave deck wth my small tap and the handle on the tap 1/4" in diameter and 3 inches long jumps down one of the oil passages. I tried to turn the engine over using the crank pulley with a wrench. It move some and now is lodged stuck., So what do I do now. I was thinking of removing oil pan to see if i get a better view. Any other recommendations?,

If a long stem magnet won't work, start taking things apart...

See if you can rent one of those long cameras on a wire from an Autozone type store then you could drop it down and see

Found my tool

I found my tool, but it is lodged between the number three piston cam shaft lobe and the sidewall of the bottom half of the block. The good news is I can see it and with patience will nibble at it trying to force it out.

Do you have one of those tiny grabber claws? I used those when the magnetic one does not work. Or is there no room?

There is a tool called "mechanical fingers" and they are made in different sizes/widths, that might get the job done if a small expandable magnet will not work. Hope a top end tear down is not in you're future. Good luck. Mac
