13 Roadster S ???'s

Hi all, I have my new roadster s conv and it is great. The one thing I miss from my 10 MCS Conv is the ability to place the temp in the center of the Tachometer gauge. I can get it as a selection on the bottom, however I prefer the instant consumption in that spot with the temp in the center box. Anyone know how to manipulate this menu setting and make the temp avail in the center box?

Next, I have put the top up and down and once forgot to move the top hand lock into the proper position, anyone see any problem with the top open in the hatch if you forget the hand lock position?

I lock the car but see no LED blinking after 16mins as the manual states, do I have a setting not correct, or is an alarm led not installed?

Lastly, I am thinking about the rear fog light install, the links I went to in past posts are dead, anyone have a place to purchase? Still need to have it programmed @ dealer after install?

Thanks for reading my novel of questions!

For the rear fog, you can get the items from Way Motor Works or ECS Tuning. And yes you have to pay the dealer for the reprograming, OR you can do it yourself with the proper cable using NCS Expert.

For the alarm LED - do you have that option installed? Is it standard on all roadsters?

- Do a little digging about the rear fog. There's a recent thread in the interior/electric mods

- For the Alarm, the alarm is an option on the roadster. My guess is you won't get the LED blinking unless you have that option. Some of these options I think should really be standard. I understand the MINI approach but some of these are a little pretentious not to include . . . but whatever.

- For the temp, if you found how to, let me know

Welcome to the community!

There should be no problem putting the top down if you leave the handle in the wrong position...there is sufficient room in the top storage well to accommodate the handle in any position.

I've got the rear fog light on my roadster, but I'm not really sure it's worth the cost. It's only a single light (the other side is a back up light), and the rear lights and center brake light on the Roadster are low enough to be very effective in fog or rain. The front fogs do help light up the sides of the road if you need them. I'm not aware of an aftermarket rear fog for a Roadster. I tried to get aftermarket rear fog lights them to work on my previous 2010 Cabrio S, and the dealer was unable to reprogram the CPU to accept them (even thought the stock wiring and bulbs were in place).

I have the alarm system as part of the City Pack option. When I lock it, an ominous blinking red light glows from the top of my tachometer. The alarm system is quite formidable even with the top down.

The temp display and the red heartbeat light (even with no alarm installed) can both be achieved using NCS Expert and compatible cable. I suggest finding someone with experience using this software to guide you since you're messing with the vehicle's code and can seriously screw things up if you go astray.

I've the factory rear fog option installed. Didn't like the asymmetry of a single backup light on the passenger side and single fog on the driver's side, so I installed one of these:

WMW Drivers Side Reverse Light

It looks great when the lights are off. Problem is, I can't find anyone--not even the vendors selling these--who knows how to wire these up so that the backup and fog circuits (and the bulb test functions) are compatible. So now people are always telling me that my left backup light is burned out.

Yes, the alarm is great . . . and great sounding. As anyone closed the car top open, forgot something on the passenger seat, leaned over and started to hold yourself on the driver seat only to found out the alarm to be working quite well

I can tell you how to wire it up if you tell me how you want it to operate. I had to rewire my lights when I installed the JCW aerokit. I'm waffling back and forth between the keeping the left fog or switching to the reverse light from Way. I also had to recode to get rid of the bulb check errors.

I don't believe that the recode for the heartbeat alarm will work for 2013, I don't believe that the wires are there if you don't already have the factory alarm option. This is what is reported, but I'll try it this weekend.

If you want to display the Temp. scroll through the menu on your turn signal stalk. That's what I have displayed on my tach.

Cerenkov has been tackling this project.

Yep there is a socket plug that's plugs into the left and right rear fog / rear back up light. I found the socket and then it will have to be rewired to work with the Cooper and Cooper S with the double lights in the back. Don't know if Cerenkov needed the contacts or not part # 61130006624

Here is the plugs. One per housing it looks like.

and the fog light left and back up lights right for the 8/2010+ people

Or

But the dual back up light and not having rear fogs does look good. And then maybe if you want to add a small bulb or led into the red reflector as you dual rear fogs ?

Good luck.

You will definitely need 4 of the contacts listed above, along with 2 of the plastic plug housings listed above also.

Each side has 3 wires. One for the reverse (blue), one for the fog (black/blue stripe) and one for common (brown). Colors are slightly different for the driver side, I forgot to write it down. Since the JCW/Aero only does one light function per side the one your not using will need to be heat shrunk over and the car will need to be recoded to get rid of the bulb check error (see spreadsheet in the NCS Expert post in the electrical mod section - the function values are slightly different but its easy to figure out - for me my left side is RFS_L_M2_47)
