It's got Cup Holders!?

OK, I just went outside and looked. Damn, it's got cup holders! I don't eat or drink in my MINI, so I honestly never paid attention!

They look OK to me though.

OK, finally came up with something to hate.

My Mini is in Florida. I'm in Colorado.

I hate that.

I tried to remove the cup holder and the whole downtube came out. It seems like it's glued to the tube itself. For now I have just removed the holder itself, and the bracket is secured to the tube. It'll have to do for now.

you can change to single pull but this also deletes the auto locking feature when you drive off. If you have a 2nd generation you do this by going into the set info feature. may have to have the dealer do it if you have a 1st generation.

Not a thing! Unless it's the fact that I didn't get one sooner.

The bracket is just attached to the downtube with double-sided foam tape. You can heat it with a hair dryer and use some dental floss to "saw" between the two parts to separate them, then use adhesive remover to get the tape residue off of the downtube.

Thank you! I thought it might be something like that, but I didn't want to inadvertently break something. I'll see if my better half will let me borrow her hair dryer

I experienced this for the first time on Monday. I hadn't used the AC but it was a particularly hot day. I almost stalled out on a hill. I will not be using the AC again, I'll suffer with the heat!

Funny that you mentioned that as one or two people have asked me if I consider the MINI a girlie car! And no, I don't. A car is just a car. Hey, I know a girl at work who is only 5'7" and drives a Dodge Ram pickup! And the most gay person I've ever met: he drives a completely black GMC KC series pickup! So I don't believe cars can have a "gender" if you get my drift!

How about when you take the Mini to the beach and it gets surrounded by so many 4wd Monster pickup trucks that you can't find it when you get back -- I'm going to have to get it a beach buggy flag I guess.

(...and by the way, I have two gay neighbors who drive very tough looking Roush Mustangs -- and they drive them very well, this is Daytona. The sound of the Roush V8 is incredible)

Many of the things mentioned here I just find to be minor annoyances.

RFs? Not a problem at all. They do everything and more that I need a tire to do on the street. Ive gotten flats and theyve been plugged just like regular tires.

Cupholders? The little ones in the front hold change, my Bluetooth or my phone. The big cupholder on the down tube? I put cups in it, or my phone when theres no cup.

Brake dust? Changed to different pads and now it washes off easily.

No auto up windows? Installed the Cull circuit. Problem solved.

I didn’t care for the repetitive failures this car is known for: I need a third thermostat housing to stop yet another coolant leak. Im on my second engine mount. When this one fails, Im going aftermarket. Im on my third windscreen. The first two got the MINI stress-cracks theyre known for.

What I especially don’t like are things that are not fixable, either from MINI or the aftermarket. To wit:

What I have a problem with is the car’s series of computers and modules. I was told there are about 27 of them in this little technological marvel. BMW has this over-engineering thing it does. Do we really need computers to manage the windows and body functions? The sunroof? If there was a way (and there must be – cars have had electrically, but non-computer-operated systems for years), as these computers fail, Id remove them from the system. The only computer that needs to be there, afaic, is the one that manages the engine and immediate systems such as fuel injection.

I hate my headliner. My headliner in my 03 finally started to droop and it is not a pretty site.

That could three different things.

1. Batteries are discharged. Not likely, though, as they recharge when in the ignition.

2. Key could have lost its programming. The fix for this simple. Its a series of put key in, turn on, turn off, and push key buttons in certain order. Theres a thread about it around here somewhere.

3. The car's receiver went south. This is yet another one of those computer issues that makes me hate this car. But for me, in this case, its a non-issue. I cant tell you how many times I used to lock my car with the button, only to come out later and find it unlocked because I had inadvertantly somehow pushed the unlock button while walking away from the car. I use the key as a key now: insert, turn, remove. No errors.

Defects

1. Squeaks and rattles in dash.
2. Brake dust.
3. Computer settings not intuitive.
4. No lumbar adjustment (even with optional sports seats).

All of these defects combined do not offset the many things I absolutely love about my MINI - too many to list here.

Well, god forbid I have to drive up a small hill on a country dirt road- forget it. I've had economy rentals do a better job! I also don't like my '09 dash which looks cheap as every one knows. And like a lot of people, I think the cup holders are problematic at best.

1 More, I'm not exactly happy with my GAS MILEAGE. A 2.5 day nyc to LosAngeles cross country highway trip yielded 27 mpg. Here in the city I'm getting 19-23 MPG. YES IT"S TRUE!
