Lost a side scuttle... Big show this weekend. What to do?
Well. Mindy was in a bit of a fender bender last week. She's only got a few tiny scratches/marks on her bumper (maybe she'll get a JCW aero kit bumper upgrade someday?).
Anyways, the only real damage is that she lost one of her pretty black jack side scuttles (passenger side). I promptly ordered repalcements from AllMINIParts.com... but they're just shipping today and won't be here till Monday.
(I will GLUE them to the holders this time.)
Problem is, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix car show is Saturday and I really wanted her to look pretty for her first big show!
So my question is... What do I do?
What will look best?
1. Leave 1 black jack scuttle on, and leave the empty holder on the other side.
2. Leave 1 black jack scuttle on, and put the old ugly plastic one on the other side. (You can really only see 1 side of the car at a time, and this way both sides would look 'finished'?)
3. Put both ugly plastic scuttles on.
4. My Boyfriend suggested taking the original black plastic scuttles and painting them white.

Hmm... try going to an arts-and-craft store and see if they have something similar in stock. Perhaps Michael's Arts and Crafts? Not sure if they are around where you live. Or try a teacher supply store. Only other suggestion is to get a couple of paint markers, mask off the pattern, and paint it in yourself.

I have to say, I'm intrigued by the painting the side scuttles white idea. I think on your color scheme it might actually be quite pretty. It's worth a try especially since it seems you already detest the color that they are presently. Anyway, you'll be getting that ordered side scuttle soon and if it doesn't turn out the way you want it, you can always put the Black Jack one back on when it comes in or just repaint them black. I think a glossy white would look really unique. Hey! You actually might even like them when you're done!

I'll try the white, if we have time to go get some paint tomorrow. I'll post pictures for sure if i do...

Not sure about painted, but over on the Vinyl Styles website, they have pics of at least two different scuttles vinyl wrapped to body color.
Seeing Amberback's white painted ones has helped me make up my mind with an idea I've been toying with since I got my MINI in early June. Now I just need the time to do it.

Yeah. Doing this has made me decide that I am absolutely painting the carriers white for my usual black jack scuttles (which will be here today!).
Already started talking to a friend of my boyfriend's who has a little hobby of painting cars. So he'll probably just paint them for whatever it costs to get the white paint. (Aspen White Code 899 it looks like?)

it goes really nice with those bonnet stripes, mirror caps and roof
Amberback!! I'm so glad to see you did it! I really think they're quite handsome on your car. I know you love your BlackJacks and I know you'll be happy when they're back on, however, I think these will be a great alternative to 'spice things up' or to accessorize (depending on your mood) your gorgeous Oxy Blue. Really cool, really cool.
