The missed /wave connection
The missed /wave connection
I was thinking on the way home about how sometimes you'll wave, or try to wave, at another mini driver and not seem to make the /wave connection, so without further adieu:
I was walking out to my mini earlier today on RTE 44 by the RI/MA border and waved slightly to a red/white mini. I'm not sure if you saw me or simply disregarded the wave because I wasn't in my mini at the time. So, /wave red and white mini.
Later on that evening, /wave to the blue MCC behind me on I-95, I was about to wave but got cut off by a silver car in front of me as I was headed for exit 11B.
etc.

Well I think the wave (or head light flash, horn honk, etc.) is an iffy thing any more. If you cross a NAM member you will probably get something, but I am fast losing faith in "others". I was 0 for 3 today, but robinj if you come out to Utah I will wave, flash, and honk!!
I had my family in the Mini for a nice evening drive to the ice cream shop the other night, and they LAUGHED at me for /waving at another passing Mini... They thought I had joined some "cult". Well, here's a proud new Mini "cult member"!!
PS - First NAM post... nice place you've got here!

Living on the east coast, specifically the new york city metro area, including much of northern new jersey, there are many people who drive a mini, but they certainly aren't mini owners. I probably get 1/10 any given day of the week, in this area.

Same waveback ratio here too. When I'm in S.F. my return-on-wave is practically 0. It's not until I'm driving somewhere where there's twisties or coastline when I get some wavebacks, and that is the only reason why the RoW is above 0.
I'll keep waving though, because it's the right thing to do.

I went for a little drive in my Mini today and three people smiled and waved, two were in other cars (not Minis) and the third was walking her dog.
I get that all the time on my antique motorcycle, but never in a car!

It makes my day when I get a wave! A lot of times I wont see another MINI when I am out. But I would say the wave return is at least 50% here. The percentage is higher in warm weather when I have the top dropped. I dont know if it is because the wave is more obvious or if other motors are scared not to acknowledge the nut frantically waving and screaming MINI! at them.
I am in upstate NY, and still get plenty of waves, even though they are fewer than back when I bought my first MINI in 2004.
BTW: The wave drives my Wife nuts: "I don't know these people! Why the hell are they waving at me!?! They must be some of your weirdo MINI friends!"

I was pleasantly surprised with the waves so far. I picked up my MINI last Saturday and got a pair of waves on the way home.
So far, I'd guess I've gotten about 70% acknowledgement rate in the almost week I've had my MINI now, and it's been initiated by the other driver about half the time.
