Maybe this is the system that MINI should have put into the car. If fits the character of the car.

At idle it can be heard as a low pitch tone, not at all loud (about 65db inside the car). At full throttle, it is noticeable but not real loud (just broke 80db). Cruising at highway traffic speed, again, noticeable but not loud. Between the tire road noise and exhaust 75-ish db. No drone on the up hill sections.

The wife should approve - it is her car.

I had an Invidia system on my first R56S and it would drone at highway speed and that just got worse going up hill. So I am familiar with that issue. Milltek did the job here.

Non-S?
I have heard about that drone issue with the Borla, and with the JCW exhausts. I think you will like the Milltek.

Great feedback. No, I have a built S with an airwerks turbo... Do you have a high flow cat? I think the borla is 'only compatible' with oem S cats, without increasing boost

This is why I went with Glowshift gauges. They have gauges that can do 10 different colors. Only downfall is at their dimmest setting they are still a bit too bright. I want to add some light window tint but just haven't found the time.

Looks Nice !

How about the Blue or Green vs the Red or White for being softer. IF LEDs, see if they can do 2700 or 2200K

I remember considering the Glowshifts. As much as I did like the back lighting - I think,(IIRC), I'd opted against them simply because of the shape/style of the bezels(?). I think, (as I recall), Cravenspeed gauges seemed to be the better match - but a bit pricey. Auto Meter was another consideration. Although the (preferable) indicator marks were not backlit; ...aesthetically the bezels looked reasonably close.
But yeah - Glowshifts look good and reasonably affordable.
Just not my choice at that time.

Yeah - I am eyeing the CS dual set up ( boost and oil pressure ), but at $599 ...... Was hoping for some black friday/cyber monday sales, but they seem to pretty much hold to their pricing !

I haven't tried any of the other colors, I wanted it matching as close as possible. I definitely do not want blue. Blue light messes with your night vision something fierce. I am already light sensitive at night. I have a Sirius Radio that only has blue (Lifetime subscription, not changing unless I have to). I have to put something over it when driving at night.

Hhmmm... I always liked the blue backlighting (with red accents) that was on my Mk4 GTI and B5.5 Passat. I never found the Blue to be an issue at night. But, I have noticed it difficult to discern blue-only company logos on buildings at night.

Yesterday I gave her a quick bath and got her ready to drive 2 hours north with the wife. Almost a month ago someone turned in front of her totally our Rav4. So after fighting with his insurance we got the Rav4 paid off, check in the account, and went to look at a 2019 VW Tiguan SEL. We have been drive various cars since it happened and after driving all the different trims of the Tiguan, this was the one that ticked all of the boxes and came in under the price that she wanted. Sunroof was real limiting factor in our search and what she wanted. i found 3 within 4 hours of us and this was the first one to go look at. On the way up we made a pit stop, why she has to carry 64 oz of any liquid is beyond me, but i digress. Getting back on the highway, my wife, got to experience her first back to back 7k shifts. Ran 3rd gear out to 7k and hit the clutch and she was like that sounds different. as i rolled over to the outside lane i said to her, stop watch the speedometer and watch the tach, as i proceed to run her up to 7k again. shaking her head she said what was that, i said a tuned mini with a $h!t eating grin on my face.

Dont know why i pay for a Carport for her if she is just going to leave the car out back.

Two hours North of you would have put you in my neighborhood. My guess would be Lima or Findlay.

Dublin, OH. We live over in Anderson, or east side of Cincinnati. Wife has a baby bladder, so there’s 15 min lost 😞

Didn't do it today, but a tomorrow soon...

...got a fresh set of tires over the black friday cyber monday sales, it is extremely difficult to find good 205/50/16 tires nowadays so I started considering 200TW stuff but I've never had any so have no idea if they'll fit my daily-driving usage, can't wait to see how they do, but will be waiting until warmer at least a couple of months to install, still a bit of life left in my BFG Sport Comp 2's.

$335 shipped!

Hopefully they won't kill me! LOL

Replaced the pads and rotors on my 2010 R56 S. Had a stuck rotor screw on one out of the four that took me awhile to deal with, had to buy an extractor set from the hardware store. Also replaced the rear corner marker bulbs since I was taking the wheels off, they both have been burnt out for months.

Not all today, but over a couple of days on the R50 replaced struts, shocks, fuel line from rail to fuel tank, and power steering pump.
Still have to do hydraulic engine mount and axle seals. 305k miles, still going.

I got so close to finishing the winter wheels last weekend. Another hour of daylight and I probably would have made it.

In other Ziggy news, his windows have been awfully fogged up on the inside. I need to get to the borrow of that before too long.

My first thoughts are:
  • Is your AC working? On defrost, the AC kicks in a little bit.
  • Or worse...do you have a leak at the heat exchanger? Are you noticing a drop in coolant level?
Good luck with the fix!

This when the car is sitting and the weather cools down. I notice it when I get home from work. It's more of a water leak issue than anything HVAC related. The cowl trim was trashed when we got the car and has been replaced. Next is checking sunroof drains and the like. I don't see any water staining on the headliner. Maybe it's fixed and there's just still that much moisture in the carpet.

Good point! I ran into this on a couple of cars I rescued where the windows had been open just a bit as it sat - the carpet had gotten soaked and it took a long time to get it completely dry. If I recall, I finally got the last of the moisture out by leaving a 60W incandescent lamp fixture in the footwell as a heater and let the car sit in my garage for a long time while it all dried out. I pulled up the carpet and set something underneath it as a spacer to allow more airflow while it dried, too.

So I noticed the foggy windows seemed to be mostly the back windows, especially the cargo doors. I did some exploring and found the storage compartment under the trunk floor had a puddle in it. I remove the jug of coolant that was down there, but it doesn't feel or smell like coolant. I dried up the worst of it and now I just need to find the time search for the source. I don't see any signs of water staining on the headliner, so that's good.

In other news, Ziggy got a stubby antenna for Christmas! This was much needed as his original mast is destroyed from too many automatic car washes with it in place.

Bored stoopid at the end of "23

With an unprecedented amount of time off and the brutally cold temps this holiday season has left me with the anxiety of cabin fever.
Desperate to find something productive to do; I braved the frosty 35° temps and siphoned out the oil catch can in my Mini.

I usually attempt to siphon out the dirty accumulation with every other oil change. I missed a few in 14k mi. As a result; Today I sucked out about 2.5oz.

Boring. I know.
To say, "I can't wait for Spring"... would be an understatement!

Have a safe and prosperous New Year!

I put a drain hose on mine that comes out in the right wheel well so I don't have to open the bonnet.

Installed Ziggy's Christmas present today, a Stubby Jr. from CravenSpeed. The OG antenna had seen too many auto washes.

Before.

After.

One of those little things that has such a dramatic affect on the appearance of the car! (And this was a quick fix in the balmy 45 degree weather we were having today. 😉 )

I haven't checked the storage well for water since cleaning it out. We did get almost 2 full days of rain earlier this week. The back windows haven't been fogging up, but it's been a bit warmer the last week, or so. I did spend some time reading up on potnetial causes including a poorly sealed body seam and sunroof drains. We did drive him home after purchase through the pouring rain.
