What I did to her on Friday? Tried driving her down the coast on a romantic little weekend trip.

What did someone else do my mini on Friday? Wreck her, and then drive off like nothing happened.

While we were *VERY* lucky that we 1) didn't flip, 2) weren't hit by any cars as we slid across the freeway, 3) didn't slam into the guard rail, and 4) were stopped by the iceplant from falling down the embankment onto the beach, we weren't injured at all.

FD and tow truck driver both checked it out said "wow, you can drive it home". I preferred not to, but it would have been an expensive tow 150 miles back home so I did. About 4/5 the way home the rest of the bumper let loose so I dragged it for 20-30 miles.

Now I have to get it fixed and hope that either something major was damaged so I can get a newer model or hope that it is all cosmetic and they are able to fix it to be just as nice as it was before (with the addition of painting my roof and dash trim, hehe).

Sorry to see that, man; brings tears to my eyes when something like that happens. Driving off and leaving you is so f__ing rude. Had that happen years ago, just pissed me off. Good luck getting your baby fixed.

Today, as many other days this winter I have walked past my hibernating MINI. The weather man says that Thursday will be near 60 after a Wednesday of showers. It will be emerging from the garage if all goes well!

61 here today! And there's still an 8 foot pile of snow in the Wal-mart parking lot next to where I work. This weather really took a hard turn into spring.

Nick - best of luck getting your MINI back together. Any hopes of finding the loser who caused it? What were they driving?

Thanks all for the well wishes/support.

The car was a 2000+ Black Honda 4 door sedan. The occupants were a 6 foot overweight hispanic guy with a bald head and a white T-shirt and a 5'5 hispanic woman medium build with dark hair wearing a black sweatshirt.

I know this because they pulled over, walked back to check on me, and then when they realized they changed lanes into me (or that they didn't have insurance) they took off. No real hope catching them. This happened about 5:40pm on Saturday, southbound Highway 1 near Seaside, CA.

...and I think I'm going to see what Dennis Haysbert and Allstate can do for me...not too happy with the way AAA/CSAA treated me on the phone.

I'd take a stab that they were illegals. I'd have went after them, but I'm crazy.

Hmmm... Got side tracked. I Plasti-dipped my mirror caps today.

Looked at it sadly, because I can't drive it at decent speeds until it gets the tie rod end replaced on tuesday.

In the past week though--had blizzaks put on it(which exacerbated the tie rod issue), put a new radio with steering wheel control in, and replaced the driver's side door actuator.

The tie rod end is the last of the work that it'll need for a while. I'm taking it on a road trip to CO as soon as it's fixed!
So what radio and steering wheel control did you use. I'm thinking of upgrading my radio and really like having the controls on the wheel.

Got this radio:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158BT38...U.html?tp=5684

And this steering wheel control: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product

You can get the steering wheel control through crutchfield, but it was cheaper on amazon. The radio has iPhone compatibility and Bluetooth built in(both phone and streaming audio), which were the two things that I really needed, since we have an iPhone and an android phone. I've made quite a few calls with the built in bluetooth, and my friends have all said that it sounds like I'm just on speakerphone, and I'm not using a mic other than the one built into the head unit.

I don't know if you've ever ordered from Crutchfield before, but they include a full installation guide, as well as all the parts you need to be able to install it in the MINI, so it's a pretty sweet deal. Good luck on making your decision!

Not to post-jack but I installed a pioneer with similar features and a similar price to your Sony, but the lighting is red so it matches the factory amber/red lighting a little better if that's your thing. Pioneer 6200BT something off amazon for like $179. I have the pac adapter too. You have to cut a factory wire from the back of the steering wheel on my model, but it works great. Completely painless once you commit to the install. I posted some pics in a radio how to here somewhere...

...in other news, I scheduled a tow and drop off at a local body shop to get the car fixed and refinanced my other car, dropping the interest rate and monthly payment. Now I basically get 2 cars for the price of one.

No problem. The only reason we didn't go with a Pioneer unit was it couldn't do bluetooth audio streaming, and for the 1% of the time that my husband is in the car, that was a deal breaker. Can't complain too much though, considering he was the one that installed it.

Ouch!!

Nick5811. Sorry to see your mini mangled. Good luck getting it fixed.
What I did with my mini this weekend pales in comparison, but it was still fun.
I took off the cheesy dealer sticker on the back of the car..... Sweet.
