Shifter cover
No, did not take picture (should of) but purchsed a cover from dealer, cut out the area under linkage. Made a 1" thick foam mold from some foam insulation covered with wax paper and fiberglassed a cover similar to nm's added box. Total cost @ $75.00.

I really hope the other one didn't go into the intake. Might be worth pulling it apart again to make sure--tool steel doesn't tend to play well with aluminum combustion chambers and pistons...

Oil Change
I did what I thougt was a routine oil change on our 02 Mini Cooper. The old filter literally fell apart when i took it out. the new one didn't seem to go together right either. Now, the oil light comes on sometimes when idleing. I've checked for leaks and the oil level is normal. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm hoping this is nothing serious.

if the light comes on with the idle it means the Filter is too crushed. i had the same thing with mine. It doesn't seal properly on the inside until you rev a tiny bit and oil pressure builds up. You can unscrew the housing and put a new filter on it without having to drain the oil.

Excellent! I had a feeling that the filter was the wrong one but, seeing as the old one fell apart, I couldn't tell. I did get a new filter and it looks like a better fit. I did some reading and was scared into thinking it was the oil bypass valve. I'll change the filter first and see what happens. Thank you!

I went to the local auto supply and they had a Fram for $24.00 but they were out of stock so they sold me a Wix for $8.00. It was my first time changing the oil on that car-even though I've done thousands in my time. I should have been suspicious. I sent you a friend request as I am new to this site. Thank you again!

Dan C - If you ever need filters in the future. We have the OEM one and well know aftermarket ones like Mann. For the Gen 1 MINI R50 R52 R53 models. We also have them in 5 & 10 packs.

I installed my interior LED light set from ECS. I purchased their R57 9 piece set which appeared to be exactly what I needed for my Coupe. My guess is it is also the correct set for an R59. Before install I labeled each package so I would be able to swap without confusion. G - Glove compartment, 2 X FW - Footwell, 3 X FD - Front dome, 2 X D - Doors, T - Trunk.
I started in the trunk. With a plastic trim removal set I was able to pop out the light in less than 30 seconds. Most of the locations were accessed in less than a couple of minutes. A couple of lamps were difficult to install in the housings because of limited space, the footwell lamps in particular. The hardest light was the dome lamp. I couldn't follow the directions because moulding wraps around the pry locations. I actually gave up for a while. I noticed the front dome protruded and almost acted like a handle. In frustration I grabbed the "handle" and applied downward pressure, and the front popped out. Spring clips held the dome in the rear. The total swap took 1 hr 15 minutes. It would have take just under 1 hr if I didn't give up.
I'm really enjoying the "natural" light and total increase in light output. My guess is the LEDs are about 5000K in color temperature, compared to probably 2700K on the old lamps. The attached pics were taken under the same conditions. My garage was closed with my garage lights on, at the same time of the day. I can post other pics if requested.

yes, the cap to the filter had a cage and a spring. The cage was broken so i discarded it. I used the spring with the new filter and the oil light comes on when at idle, the goes off with the slightest touch of the gas. Should i pull the filter and remove the spring and re-install the filter?

Didn't. Ordered from here. It only took about a week and a half to get here via normal mail, but they were out for just over a month. I ordered this in mid-late June and got it yesterday. Took 5min to install.
