As I was driving back from the gym yesterday with CROC 687, I saw a blue Countryman driving in the opposite direction. I was contemplating whether or not to wave. Before I made up my mind to wave, he gave me a big thumbs up. I gave a BIG wave back.... Just made my day! Does this count as "What did you do with your Mini today"?

My wife and I installed carbon fiber a-panels from Vinyl Styles today. It was a pain in the butt and required partially removing the wheel arches, but it turned out great.

Nice work . Did you take any pictures or video from start to finish? I would like to see the step by step process.

Bathed them, then gave them private alone time hoping I would come outside and find a baby JCW Roadster but no such luck

I finally found and fixed the elusive front end "clunk" my R53 had since the day I bought it...turns out some moron (probably a previous owner) had not properly torqued the bolts on the front passenger side brake caliper and it had some play in it...I torqued those down and its completely gone

Also found out my stupid self improperly routed the abs line for that brake when I was reassembling after my pulley install and it was rubbing against the crank pulley...luckily I found and fixed this before it became a problem

Just hit my break in mileage and changed my oil... got to say it is a pain in the butt to get the filter back on! Coolant hoses in the way, had to use some force to hold them out of the way. Next change at 6200 or so will be done by Greasy's in Worcester, MA after that swearing fest! :-) The next one after that should be a factory one.

Nope, sorry. Some of the A-panel overlays are cut so you don't have to remove trim, but these were oversized so the end result looks more finished. Basic process:

1. Wash panel
2. Remove side scuttle and belt line trim
3. Remove wheel
4. Remove wheel well cover
5. Partially remove wheel arch enough to get vinyl underneath
6. Apply vinyl
7. Trim as necessary
8. Wait ~30min
9. Reassemble

It took around 4 hours, though a lot of that was figuring out how to get the wheel arch off. I'd say the first took 3 hours and the second took 1 hour (not including the 30 minute wait).

I watched this youtube video before doing it, but the one in the video was cut so you didn't have to remove anything but the belt line. It's a much quicker install, but doesn't look as professional.

Did you use the one 10mm bolt to swing the reservoir out of the way? Easy peasy lemon squeezy...

I just DROVE mine. Discovered my exhaust is a mite loud on longer trips. Not awful, however.

Yup... no problem with the reservoir... there are hoses and a rubber grommet / support ring that sit right on top of the filter that make it real tough to get it back in and lined up with the threads. Needless to say I have a local Mini mechanic that will be doing it from now on!

Me too, on both counts.

The engine is definitely liking the bonnet vents! I'm thinking I may black out the louvers and leave the mounting flanges shiny next weekend when I have some extra time.

C ya,
Dutch

Sway, baby!

Wrestled the new 22mm Alta RSB on. Wasn't too bad after identifying all the parts. Took it for a spin and it definitely rocks! Bazinga!

Found my OEM tool kit wedged in next to my battery and installed my tow hook.

Now the question is what colour to paint it...

If you're from the Northeast then you probably know why there just 'happened' to be a rubber ducky in my car.

Installed lightly-used 400cc injectors, recently-acquired (rather reasonably-priced, too) from a local club member who upgraded to 550cc units.

Went for a test spin immediately after install to get a pizza-shaped object to nosh while watching a movie with my son tonight.... Apart from a little initial weirdness at idle when first starting the engine (which could simply be the fuel rail being empty initially), it ran smoothly right off the bat.

Hopefully this will stop the P0171s (system lean) I keep getting when going up long hills since getting the JCW engine program loaded a few months ago.

C ya,
Dutch

Dale, you need a tune with those. Yes it will start and run but there is a fine line between just right and too rich or lean. the most you could possibly use on the stock tune is the 380cc JCW injectors.
