Exterior Complete

Finally got the correct adapters for the Thule bike racks, and topped it off with the front Mini symbol cover from AC. Life is good.

Brand new Pilkington windshield installed and new top seal. I had my glass guy get the top seal because of NAM, good thing I ordered it because the old one was mutilated after peeling it off!

All for $339.95

He got a lot more clearance than I did - at least he knew what he was doing. I had no clue.

Are there any posts / distructions you used for guidance, or did you figure it out on your own?

How many miles were on it when you decided to change, and what did the fluid look like (nasty?).

Thanks.

I searched for a DIY thread. It explained everything. I just broke 100,000 miles and used almost 2 qts redline mtl I bought from Moss MINI along with a Scangauge. I was a lot darker than the new oil but, I am not sure if it was bad.

When you lower you change the normal operating angles ofthe cv joints. Usually if u have low mile your cv's have not worn in their contact patches inside the cv cup assembly. I lowered at around 19k and the corresponding vibration came from the cv carrier slightly vibrating in and out of those worn in contact "pits". It either came from this or that the cv's have been designed to work at an angle and when lowering your straightening the operating angle of the cv shaft. For this cause it could be vice versa.

CV stands for 'constant velocity'. Out of the differential are two CV shafts for each drive wheel.

The Joints are Constant Velocity, the shaft just connects them together.

I changed my tranny lube at 40K for Redline MT-85 75W85 (1.75qts) and put Dimple super magnet fill/drain plugs in as well. The lube that came out was as black as coal tar and had the viscosity of warm water! It had been overfilled and the copper seals were missing on the plugs, too. Not my idea of what a "Life Time" lube should look/feel like. I have since found out that BMW put the wrong kind of lube in early production run R56's equipped with LSD! Mine's build date is 12/13/07 so I guess I was one of the "lucky" ones. BTW, after the lube change the shifting was much smoother and more positive. I'll be changing at 30K from now on!

well my mini is down until my IE fixed camber plates come in from way(just ordered). so i pulled my truck out of the garage and parked the mini so that there is plenty of room for a jack on each side. Took my truck to the gas station for the first time in more than a month and filled her up.

yesterday before i drove up to UofH i marked the tare in the passenger side upper strut mount, and when i got home it had torn about a 2cm more on each side . so mini is parked for fear of that mount letting go on the freeway.

so if you read this Way, please hurry. also no rushed delivery option?

Brought Gizmo to the mechanic today for an inspection: PS fan had seized, right engine mount needs to be replaced, need a set of new tires. Spark plugs and wires are also goners now, but I can replace those myself and save some $$.

Oh how I love repairs
