Best gas milage yet
I just got 36.4 Miles per Gallon around town on my 2009 JCW. It was a go/slow 126 miles because my girlfriends sister was visiting her and she wanted to site-see the Daytona area.I took her up the coast from Ponce Inlet to above Ormond Beach. The speed was never over 40mph. I drove like an old Florida Person is supposed to drive."""SLOW""" It was fun looking and talking. She fell in love with my Mini Cooper and is now thinking her next car may be one. She could not believe how comfortable the seating was and how nice the car rides. Of course Florida roads are pretty smooth.
I think when I drive out to Denver I will just keep it under 40mph on the interstates and ride in the left lane so I can save gas.
Just KIDDING!!!!!!!

I've gotten a lot worse before broken in, when driving in a lot of commuter traffic in and out of NYC...
I'd read an article once in a British mag (there's a link somewhere under this section) of what it took to get 40 mpg (imperial) commuting with the JCW... delicate use of the go pedal with no upshifts above 2000rpm, judicious use of the brakes, and all that.
I never go by the OBC in that it's always overestimates at least 0.5 - 1.5mpg. Lately measuring tank to tank over 1000 miles then again a few tanks after I've been getting up to 29.5 mpg.
I'm not racer boy (well, racer middle-aged man) or anything, but I'm also certainly not one to ever driver gingerly either. I believe in getting-up to speed as quickly as possible, and never slowing down for turns.
So, I'm pretty dang happy with this little hot hatch that's almost as quick as my MB C43 was before I put the E55 engine in it, but only gave me around 17 mpg at best when driving it the same way I do my JCW...

i drive around in philly back and forth daily from work, half highway/ half city, and am averaging 42.7 mpg... :P (altho i have to say the best take i have EVER seen/gotten was an all night drive from Boston to Philly started at 1AM, cruise controled 60mph and got an average of 68.7 mpg!!!!!!... TAKE THAT PRIUS!!!!!!!! and worst had to be track day and that was ~26.5mpg... THAT was amazing.... now i just wish there was some way to get 68 mpg again :( tried a few times but the best i could do was a 51 mpg... had to be some absolutely heavenly combination of weather conditions, temp, mostly downhill driving, no waste (go ez pass), no traffic, no boost always in vacuum and divine intervention to get that gas milage... maybe there's some way to software that divine amazingness into the car between 1 and 5 am :P)

there... that was on my attempt to beat the boston trip one from Allentown to Philly(utterly failed but like i said, some divine intervention on that epic MPG trip...)... of course i also realized AFTER the fact that i should ahve snap shotted the boston trip computer :/ kinda makes the point nulled until i by some slight of the turbo car gods pull it off again (COME ON AND DO IT WHEN GAS PRICES GO UP AGAIN!!!!)

I don't see how you guys get such good mileage if you've got lots of stop and go city driving like me. I have a short commute with no freeways and usually get 22-25 mpg on a tankful calculated manually. I've seen as high as 30 on a trip but that was with cruise set on 75-80. I usually have bike(s) on top and that cuts the mileage to around 23 at 80mph.
So far I have been impressed with the mileage I am getting with my JCW Clubman compared to the 1st gen MINIs
. The new engines are a lot more efficient! Averaging 34.0 MPG over the course of ~750 miles
.
Tank 1 (partial): 316 miles driven, 8.631 gallons to refill, 36.6 MPG
Tank 2 (full): 422 miles driven, 13.106 gallons to refill, 32.2 MPG
Granted, I am taking it easy during the break-in period with only some Sport button action and mostly highway driving. That will change with time
.
Here is how the various MINIs have stacked up:
02 Cooper (5MT): 31-37 MPG, 410 mile range at best
03 Cooper S JCW (6MT): 24-30 MPG, 350 mile range at best
06 Cooper S JCW (6MT): 24-30 MPG, 350 mile range at best
09 Clubman JCW (6MT): 32-37 MPG, 350-450 mile range estimated
As you can see, new JCWs get just as good gas mileage as older, base MCs!

As you're probably up on this topic, which bike rack would you recommend, and would you happen to know are there any where the cross member is removable, for better milage when you're not using it.
Ah, that explains the mtb in your identity. I know this seems OT, but lets look at it in how it relates to milage.

. The rack is very sturdy and not too noisy even without a fairing (Yakima's round bars howl without one.) The first time setting it up on the car took about an hour, now I can remove and/or reinstall it in less than 10 minutes so it's really not worth just removing parts of it for better mileage. I went on a MINI through the Texas Hill Country at Bandera rally this weekend without it and it is amazing how much it affects things. I averaged 27.5 mpg during the 150+ miles of the rally driving rather briskly through some pretty twisty hilly stuff. On the flat interstate drive home it kicked up to around 29ish with the cruise set on 80.

I just reached 47.6 mpg
I got 47 miles per gallon steady driving on I-95 on one tank of gas. It was the best I ever got since I bought the car.
My mileage for my complete vacation trip was 41.8 mpg for the 2,255 total miles I went. That included some city driving as well as going through Washington/Baltimore at 5 PM on a Friday nightmare.
I did the write down the mileage on paper and didn't use the computer to figure this mpg.
I did check my odometer many times against the roadside markers and it was spot on. My GPS showed I was doing 77mph while my speedometer showed 80mph. The speedometer seemed to be 3mph off at 80mph. The odometer did not seem off at all. It was spot on every time I checked it at different speeds. Going through construction I was clocked by one of those radar things at 56mph when my GPS said I was doing 56 and my speedometer said I was doing 57 mph. Only one MPH off at 56.
When I'm home around Daytona I usually only get around 32/34 mpg. I guess I just gotta take more vacations.

I have been calculating the mpg on my 09 JCW and comparing it to the OBC. After 7 tanks of gas over mixed suburb/highway driving, the pattern is clear. The OBC consistently shows 37-38 mpg. (I reset the mpg each time) Unfortunately, the actual mileage is 28-29. I'm not complaining about the mileage; it's really good for how hard I drive the car. What bothers me is how horribly inaccurate the OBC is at measuring mpg.
The range is also way off. After I fill up, it will say around 480 miles left to go. After driving 240 miles, it should say 240 or so left to go, right? Nope! it will show something like 100 or 115 left to go. Obviously the OBC is not all it's cracked up to be.
