Check gas cap light / car smells like gas

I have a 05 mini and recently took for an oil change and Everything went smooth and car drove great. I went home and a few hour later I turned on my car and the engine light and check gas cap light came on and now when I start up my car it starts to smell like gas inside the car then the gas cap light comes on. I'll drive for about 10 minutes then it'll go away and come back 10 minutes later. I'm not sure if I should replace the fuel filter that's under the back seats or if I have a leak I can't find. Does anyone know what I can do ?

Have you checked the cap and all seems well? If you're smelling fuel in the car, I believe there are two sending units inside the vehicle. Here is a thread on NAM with some good info on possible causes. This tech article here shows you placement of where the vent valve is, as some people said their cause was that unit (13-90-7-572-086).

Cap the gas cap and also check the vent valve on the front. 13907572086

The gas cap need to be ch=licked all the way. If you can smell gas in the arear of the vent valve , that may be your issue.
