LED Headlight Alignment

Anyone have a measurement for where the low beam is hitting a wall at 25 feet, at the top of the beam? Trying to avoid paying MINI $100 for two minutes of adjusting. Tired of getting flashed all the time on the road.

The usual adjusting routine is a pain to do in my location, but just going by the top of the beam with an LED is pretty simple.

Thanks - Happy T day.

Park about 25 feet behind another car on a level street and make sure your headlights are shining below their side view mirrors. That should get other drivers off you.

If you want to do it more accurately you can follow these instructions: https://www.popularmechanics.com/car...adjust-lights/

You lowered your car, right?
Then it would be a height sensor adjustment.

No lowering, they are just aimed high. I'm going to turn the adjustment screw one turn every day until people stop flashing me. I was hoping to get a height number at a set distance so I could adjust it in one shot. Not going to pay Mini for an hour of labor for a five minute adjustment.

25 ft back from wall, level surface.
Put a mark on wall the exact height of the headlamp bulb.
Aim lower arc 2 1/2 inches below
Horizontal should be dead straight, as the upper arc points away from the oncoming traffic.
Horizontal is where the lower arc turns into upper arc.

I had that issue too but "MINI of Warwick" fixed it for free during an oil change. Somewhat surprised? other dealers charge their loyal customers for a minor 2 min fix.

Mine was aimed pretty high too. Maybe it’s the LED thing. I just lowered the beam enough that is comfortable for me to drive in dark. In a garage, front of a 2 ft away wall, I probably lowered the beam to aim 1inch lower than stock.

I hate that so many new cars these days have high aimed headlights.

Just to put closure on this, I adjusted the beams down approx 2 turns on the screw. Drove the car and next night adjusted another 1.5 turns. Seems pretty good now. Free is better than the $100 plus MINI quoted me.

Just found out the proper way to adjust LED headlamps.
On the housing, mine says 1%, which means the beam drop is 1%.
So at 10 meters, the (aim) is 1 centimeter down.
For muricans, thats just over 4 inches at 36 feet.
Or better yet 3 inches at 25 feet, cause thats the distance the DOT measures headlamps.

My fog lamp states 2%, 6 inches at 25 feet.

I was wrong about level sensor adjustment there is none.
Turn headlamps on, but not to auto. That will be your static position, then the auto level works from that starting point.

The headlights on my 2019 F57 seem high, hitting cars/trucks higher (at a comparable distance) than even our BMW SUV with LED headlights, so I've been thinking of aiming them down just a bit. When I turn the headlight switch to on, the lights auto-level regardless. They even do so when just unlocking the car. It's been a while since I've made any adjustments to a car with auto-leveling headlights, but the last time I did (a VW) there was a procedure that put the lights in sort of a neutral position, you aimed the lights how you needed to, and then finished. So nothing like that for MINI? Full disclosure, I haven't done much research on this.

By what Ive read, turning the headlamps to ON not AUTO, and adjusting sets the base alignment. Then the sensors only account for chassis movement.

Good info above on aiming headlights, here is another resource I have used in the past. I have had several email conversations with Daniel on other applications, great guy and a serious lighting nerd in a good way.

How To Aim Headlamps and Auxiliary Lamps
