Would this scare you off?

Looking at a 2017 base Cooper fairly well loaded up. CA car for sale in VA with a clean Carfax and only 6100 miles driven in a year. My concern is the Carfax service history. It's already had CV joints replaced and an A/C compressor and that worries me a bit. Seems like it might be a lemon in the making?

Rule of thumb, if you have doubts, walk away

Lots of good cars out there that can be overlooked because of potential buyer "jitters"....if you like the car, ask questions, get the history, find a reputable mechanic and get a professional opinion. DON'T rely totally on Carfax...it's very over-rated and can be deceptive!

I'd ask to see the service records from the Mini dealer and then call the dealership to gather more information.

My 2017 had pretty much all front suspension components replaced due to the dealer trying to fix a creak noise. Its perfect now. I don't see mine as a lemon.

No, as I wouldn't either. (Nice the dealer made it right by the way.) But this one with both CV joints and an air compressor already done so early on concerned me. I'll do as 02fanatic says and get service records and then "walk away" as Vinnie said if I'm still weary. Thanks all.

I'd use those issues as part of an aggressive price reduction. You also have plenty of warranty time left on the car so if you are going to be putting some miles on, you will be able to find and have any issues corrected at dealer.

If it is the right price, I wouldn't hesitate for a second.

All my work was done in the first month, and I have 8K since I bought it exactly one year ago!!

I rely heavily on my "spidey" senses. Plenty of other low miles, zero repair history cars out there to choose from. The last 5 new car's I've purchased had zero issues (other than manufacturer SB fixes). A new car w/ repairs as stated w/ 6100 miles would be a warning bell to me.

All my previous vehicles were bought, traded and sold locally. I'd be curious how a CA car wound up in VA.

I'd likely shun this one even if sold as a CPO w/ an extended warranty.

If you connect with a car whether it be the color, the options, the mileage, or whatever, it makes it hard to turn your back on buying it just because of some repairs or even prior body damage....if all repairs were done right, you know the history, the price is right, there may NOT be tons of other low mileage cars out there to buy! We just went through something similar and we negotiated a lower price with a 3 year CPO warranty...that’s pretty good for a 3 year lease turn in car with 15k miles!

Sone people will walk away from just about anything and that’s fine but don’t be stupid and let a great car go without doing some due diligence! If you don’t have any predetermined car specifications that you want it’s much easier to “walk”.

Just weigh all the pluses & minuses...if YOU are happy in the end that’s all that matters!
