Cigarette lighter fuse

My cigarette lighter socket is dead. I plugged something into it, with the car OFF, and it sort of sparked and now it's dead. Happened once in another car I had too. I tripped a fuse in that case.

When I search on here in the F56 forum, I don't see anything about fuse types or numbers. The owners manual says to unscrew the glovebox, but then someone here says that is incorrect?

Anyone have experience with this? Can I just go to auto store and buy a fuse, or is it off to the local dealer for a 2 day ordeal?

Thanks!

It should be fuse 65 with a 20A standard sized fuse. There is a folded sheet of paper with the location of the fuses tucked in the middle of the fuse panel (along with the fuse puller).

See https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-fuse-box.html

I didn't take out the glove box or disconnect the panel but it's a very tight space.

I'll give those instructions a shot. Thanks!

Whats weird is the USB power an inch below the 12v socket works fine. Must be on separate fuses, or I really fried something.

YW. USB is powered by the head unit rather than direct.

Good to know (about the USB), thanks.

I'm gonna have to take it to dealer. Moved passenger seat all the way back, got under the glovebox, and see some fuses, but don't see the tab/clip to press to get all of them to fall out/down. I'm thinking it's more confusing too since it's a LHD car installed in a place where RHD is the norm. And you're upside down when looking at it. I'd most like have an airbag pop in my face if I tried to force it down.

No YouTube vids out there either. This platform still too new I guess for all the serious modders out there (in terms of electrics anyway).

This might help to locate things.

Thanks for the diagram! Turns out my local auto parts store doesn't know what fuse to sell me because there are multiple types of 20 amp fuses. Like styles of them I guess. ATx or ATy or ATz. Owners manual doesn't say.

They don't have single fuses either. Like $25 for bulk amounts.

FIXED! My shoulder blades and neck officially hate MINI designers (fuse box way under there, really?), but I replaced the fuse (yellow 20 ATM) and the socket works now. Won't ever plug in anything there I have a feeling.

Thanks again bheights!

¢14-28 each depending on style on rockauto.com.....
I might suggest keeping an "assorted" kit in the garage or glove box for a couple $.
Anyplace selling you $25 for a "big box" of fuses must be several hundred I would hope....

One tip...if you know which one you are pulling...a pair of needle nosed pliers is the simplest way to yank them....the plastic puller is kinda emergency use only...just don't squeeze too hard!!

Thanks for the advice. I had my needle nose handy but ended up using the red puller. It was fairly easy because the 65 fuse has 66 on one side, but no 64 on the other. So you have room to grab it. The old one (old...car build date of April 13, 2016, ha!) was melted real good. Won't be plugging that item in the lighter socket ever again, that's for sure.
