MPG vs. 2015 Honda Fit

My MCS with 2.0L Turbo auto gets 36.7 MPG average in normal daily 60-mile commuting.
My son's newly bought Fit with1.5L N/A CVT gets 38-9 MPG average in his normal daily 40-mile commuting on the same route (we take same freeway but son gets off sooner).
MCS can be driven in a very spirated way in Sport mode if one wants to.
Honda can't be - it just wont and it's a very boring ride, but it's $10K cheaper and has a huge cargo room with rear seats can easily accomodate 6 footers.
I know they are not in the same league but I was surprised that MPG figures are very similar, yet the performance is wildly different. I think MINI/BMW did an excellent job of getting such good MPG.

Totally agree! My Commute in my MCS is 100 percent city traffic and I get about 29-31 mpg and that's with my high shift points (around 3 -3.5k rpm) and when I go on the highways everyday in the evening for about 30 miles round trip I never go less than 90-95 mph and get around 30-33 mpg, once I even get 35 mpg with cruise control on 90 mph!! This car is amazing, seriously! My grandfathers FIAT 500 Manual, struggle to get 30 mpg, and the cars struggle to get 80 mph! When I drive it, I can't even squeeze 25 mpg (on the highway, I don't go past 3rd gear in that car).Seriously FIAT must've been going 10 mph in 5th gear to get the 40mpg they claim!

I traded in my 2010 Fit on a 2014 MCS. All round the Mini gets better mileage, and way better in Green mode on the Hwy. Switching to Sport drops a couple of MPG less than the Fit. The Honda had lots more interior room and was really a very versatile ride. I enjoyed it and would certainly look at another one.

That said the power of the MCS has me hooked, its amazing how much faster it is but still has the ability to get better mileage if I care to.

I like this thread.

I have a 2014 MCS F56 and my husband just got a 2015 Honda Fit for his winter car.

I like that they both get around the same gas MPG.

Nahhh, Have you every had the pleasure of driving in Florida? They all drive that fast down there! When I first got down there last year on our honeymoon I was driving about 10 over and called that safe. I quickly found out I was driving waaaaaaaay too slow. Once I got to that 90-95mph range it seemed I was about on the average pace. And at times I was still getting passed!!!

That is sort of like comparing apples & bananas. Two very different car made for two very different purposes.

I've gotten 2 speeding tickets and one ticket for illegal license plate mounting (had matching Euro plates and stuck the FL one in the rear windscreen) in my 5 years of driving, but both were for going 65 in a 35, I've been pulled over maybe 9 pr 10 times in Turnpike, 75 and 95 combined, once for 110 in a 65, but since I had my permit he gave me a warning (I think he was shocked, my female cousin was changing into her pyjamas in the back of my Clubbie and she was currently in her bra when he pulled me over, thank god you don't have to wear a seatbelt in the back in FL!) and the max I've been on the highway was 127, it was I-95 at 1 am. I think I would rather speed and get a ticket than go the speed limit, that would probably get me killed down here, I mean the tourists on turnpike going to Orlando are always the ones getting hit and stuff because they're going so slow and people going normal speeds (around here) don't have time to react to them and hit them (though it's mostly the speeding ones fault, they think they can text and drive and out make up on, while going 100 mph!) and it's annoying going 65-70 mph when the highways are so pin straight and wide and my car is perfectly capable of reaching higher speeds.

Already noted.

That's WHY the mpg obeservation of two cars is interesting.
MCS is more of 'sporty' car with a 500 cc bigger engine AND turbo.
Fit is more of econobox with a smaller N/A engine (and from Honda!), but it doesn't get much better mpg than MCS in a very similar driving condition.

I get the impression Mini is big on gas mileage because most of the cars they sell are in Europe where it's important. They sell several less expensive and better mileage models there (Mini 1, and diesels). They had the stop/start feature there for years, we just got it here this year (hated it in my friends' F56). They used to say that in the US 2/3 of owners have the MCS. I bet it's more like 50/50 with the F56 now.

The Fit is about 4 inches taller, so it probably has a little more aero drag. Anyway, a Fit with an engine similar to the MINI S would be a cool car, with lots of room, and also lots of performance. I'm not surprised the mpg of the Fit and MINI would be similar, at least in highway driving. The down side, cost-wise, of course, is that the MINI needs premium.
