Holes in front bumper

While making a pre-delivery list for the dealer, now would be the time to remind them not to drill the front bumper full of holes for lic. plate mounting.

yep, already told mine several times not to drill the front bumper or put any advertising stickers on the rear like some dealerships are apt to do.

also told them not to wash or detail it because i don't want swirls on our new cars!!

Where and how do you plan to have the front plate mounted? What is the alternative to bumper drilling? Thanks....

Kind of disappointed

Well, since some of you have gotten new ETAs suddenly and it seems there is some motion at MINI, I figured I'd ring up my MA to see if he has any updates for me since October is just around the corner. I don't know, but they must be instructed to say nothing. All I got was his canned answer that as far as he knows everything seems to be on track for October release, BUT he doesn't know if pre-sold cars will get priority or not. He'll let me know when he knows anything. I guess they'll call when my car is sitting on their lot because it seems they won't know anything until then. Frustrating.

That stinks your MA is saying nothing. I heard customer cars have the top priority.

Yeah, that's what is so frustrating. We've all heard that. It only makes sense. Is MINI really not telling their dealers anything (so technically they really wouldn't have anything official they could say) or is it that the dealers just don't want to be bothered. Hrmph. I find it hard to believe (but I suppose it's possible) that 4 days before cars are supposed to be released, they still don't know anything more than they did in July.

I just wrote him back to tell him that the only thing I know is that the OL has had my date as 10/8 since the first week in August. He replied that he hopes I'm accurate and reiterated that he does not know the release protocols and "cautioned (me) to not be surprised if projected arrivals aren't as stated." Well isn't that just the ray of sunshine I've been hoping for these last couple months....

There are a few options for tow hook license plate brackets out there. I have the Cravenspeed version sitting in my garage waiting for my car to be released. Cravenspeed also has an extra drop bracket you can ask for at order to allow the plate clearance for driving lights (if you have them).

- Drivers side washer nozzle fix. There were at least two fixes to this that I've read about.
This is a really good idea and deserves a thread of its own. I was thinking exactly the same thing, especially considering that there will be a huge crush of cars hitting the dealers next week. To me, it's a situation ripe for rushed shoddy prep jobs, including no updates and careless (swirled paint) wash jobs.

I thought of 1) ECU software (stalling, start/stop, other?), 2) entertainment system software, 3) Misaligned weatherstripping around the hatch that allows water to accumulate in the hatch door, 4) Front door weatherstripping that abrades the B-pillar, 5) No dealer-advertising crap applied. 6) Windshield washer dribbling.

Maybe the mods would move these two posts to their own topic?

This is a really good idea I had not thought about. Do you recon if I order one now it will come by time of delivery?

Update: Ordered the license plate mount, emailed sales rep & told him not to have them drill the holes !

I wasn't aware of the weather stripping problems.

- ECU Software update, both for automatic transmission cars.

SI M12 06 14
B38M Engine Low Idle Speed

SI M12 07 14
B38M Shuts Off when Placed into Gear after Cold Engine Start

I think they just need to flash the latest ECU software.

- Washer Fluid leaks from Front Washer Jets is bulletin # SI M61 03 14. Installed part 61-66-7-404-885 - IMPULS ELIMINATOR. Not sure if this is the same as Damper SI M610314

It was the same for me when I talked with my dealer. I did asked about the battery sitting that long; will VDC or the dealer do anything. He really didn't answer that question too. My date is still Oct 8th

There are pics posted either here or at the British forum ..... what is it...? minif56.com or something like that. The weatherstripping makes some nasty scratches in the paint. Looks like it can go as far as the primer. Multiple owners have reported this problem.

Sorry to hear you can't get any info either, but glad to know it's not just me and my dealer.

I talked to the sales manager at my dealership today. They have no idea when any individual car will be loaded onto transport. First produced will be first shipped. They have notified their techs that once cars begin to arrive, no days off until the car are correctly prepped & ready for their owners. First deliveries will most likely begin toward the middle of October. Mine is in port in the LA area. Can you imagine the number of Minis waiting to be delivered to dealers?

OR, you could quickly move to a state that doesn't require a front plate!

To the best of my knowledge, release is still 10/1, but earliest deliveries are looking like 10/3, for those who are closest to the various VDC's.
