F55/F56 Weeping wiper ducts
Weeping wiper ducts
I have a dried puddle of solution surrounding my
windshield wiper ducts. I have cleaned it up daily for the last 5 days and it re-appears.
Think I'll run the washers several time to see if tank fluid expansion
is the cause.
Anyone else notice puddles around their hood mounted wiper ducts?

I did have some the first few days I had the car, but lately it has not returned. I did use the w/s washers several times lately, so maybe that cleared it up. Will continue to monitor and let you know.
I had the problem too for the first few days. It seemed to happen after opening the bonnet. Perhaps the factory overfilled it. I used the washers thinking it might clear any residual fluid. Weeping has now stooped.
Caution:
Before running the washer and wipers make sure to wipe off the wiper blades.
Sand, dirt and misc. road filth accumulates there. When the wipers are started the
accumulation is wiped across the windshield like sand paper.
If possible wash the windshield first.
If it has been pouring rain the story is different, but desert and beach dwellers
usually have enough accumulated grit to cause damage.

Guessing it's as others here have said, heat expansion/ over filled, and will probably stop soon enough. I had this issue on my R56 a few days after bringing it home. Older years I guess didn't have check valves in the lines.https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...weeping-2.html

Washed the window and wipers and ran the auto washer 6 times.
Checked the reservoir, and it is not to the full marker.
We'll see this afternoon.
The Mini is on a full day of errands in the sun.

Does anyone know if the nozzle has any adjustment to it. My driver's side sprays too low.
You can take a pointed object the same diameter size as the nozzle aperture and insert it in the aperture.
Inserted , you are able to adjust stream direction.
Caution, don't use anything that will break off !!
I use a dental probe.
I haven't tried it in the Mini.
I have used this method in a 3 series BMW and a VW Westfalia.
This is covered under warranty, but doesn't warrant a trip to the Dealer
Mine does this. Runs all the way down the hood. I make sure I'm driving when I spray the windshield so that it blows off the hood. After it sprays, one nozzle just seems to keep growing a large bead of wiper fluid and it runs down the hood. It is if it has formed a vacuum in the lines and doesn't allow the fluid to flow back into the tank.

Wow, that's far worse than mine was. Mine only ran down about an inch.
This was a problem with a lot of the R56s, and they came up with a check valve. I never had this problem when the car was new, but did as the car aged. At about the 6 year point, I found that the clear coat was separating in large pieces, starting with what was apparently a slight (unnoticed) leakage in freezing weather, front and rear. I wound up having the clear coat resprayed, which was a rather expensive fix, compared to the in-warranty check valve I could have gotten if it had happened earlier in the car's life. The cars that had it fixed under warranty also had their hood stripes replaced because they were stained; I had to buy new stripes because I had to take off the new ones for the paint repair.
Not happy to hear this is still a problem...

Mine does the same thing. Some say they put ethanol or methanol (??) in the tank to keep the water from freezing, and that is the stuff that is eating the paint, clearcoat, vinyl.
I'm draining the tank and refill it with just softwater, no solution. A bottle of Windex and clean microfiber will sit on stand by in the trunk.

My dealer where i got the car from AND a close one by my work know about this issue as some of their lot/floor vehicles are showing the similar "bird dropping" effect from the same driver side sprayer.
I'm almost certain that MINI/BMW are well aware as well, and I choose to do this while they figure out the fix. In the case they chose to ignore this then my paint wouldn't continue to suffer. And my car will not leave Los Angeles.
My $.02.

Mine started doing this on my very first drive. By the time I got home from the dealer there was a 3'' or so trail leading away from it. By Sunday night it was like Champ198's picture... except I have black stripes. I used a wet microfiber cloth to clean it up this morning, but there's a visible trail in the black stripe now =/ Hoping with real cleaning solutions and not just water that it'll lift off.
