Scuttle trim installation and removal

Question for those that have dealt with the F56's scuttle trim -- do you need to remove the side markers to install or does it fit around? And what about removal, is it easy to remove? Dental floss?

(I keep thinking the Thunder Gray needs something to break it up a bit but be a bit sedate, and my eye keeps coming back the JCW Scuttle but I have vowed to wait until after I have the plates on it before buying anything other than the "official" stubby antenna, which I picked up on eBay)

I am not sure of you need to remove the side markers (I expect you do though) but I was told by the parts guy at my dealer that the scuttle is attached to the car with a fairly strong adhesive so I do not think it will be easy to remove with out some sort of solvent to remove the "glue".

I too have been thinking about getting either the JCW or the black/white checkered scuttles for mine with midnight black.

I did see that it's not adhesive strips but apparently a tube of adhesive, so if I do this I'll need to think of it as permanent.

excuse my confusion here...but if you just want to remove the sidemarker, it's held on by clips that's easily removable via the hood.

pictures seem to show that the add-on scuttles get installed and then the original sidemarker gets snapped back on.

Hey guys

I have attached the install instructions to help clarify the install of the F56 Side Scuttles. There is a permanent adhesive that is used and the side lights do need to be romved and installed on the scuttle before adhesion.

Here is our ebay link if you would like to view them

Hope this helps

Could 3M adhesive tape be used instead of the glue?

I'd recommend giving it a shot. The double sided tape works fine on the front badge, and the black gooey scuttle adhesive would be hard to reverse.

Most badges are held on with two sided tape from the factory. If you clean both surfaces well with rubbing alcohol and apply on a warm day it'll be on there good.

Maybe too good! With as much surface area as those scuttles take up, these will be tough to remove when taped properly!!

The F56 "launch edition" vehicles came from the VDC with the black/gray checkered mirror caps and side scuttles (and driving lamps) installed. Those scuttles were attached with small round adhesive dots that didn't stay secured by the time the vehicles made it to the dealers, so the repair instructions were modified to use the liquid adhesive.

I agree that double sided 3M automotive tape would be just as effective and offer the option of removing them later. With the adhesive, forget it.

When I was at the dealer getting my MINI, there was a tint company applying matte black vinyl over the OEM Gold Jack side scuttles on a Black F56. I asked them why they were doing that and they told me that the customer did not want them and they were not removable. Yikes!

So has anyone tried 3M tape to apply the scuttles? I just got my clear markers and black/grey checker scuttles and wanted to know if it works.

Very interesting and thanks to OP for asking the question.

We were thinking of adding the JCW scuttle (as well as the gray and black checkered Mirror caps and rear view JCW interior mirror cap. Was really surprised a how large that scuttle is when viewed from the side . Mini configurator certainly shows them as much smaller based on the point of view.

Are any of the above mentioned items (aside from the scuttle which has already been addressed), something the average owner can buy and install himself without any real problems or issues?

Guessing the mirror caps are just that caps that slide over the existing mirror and held in place by clips or adhesive. Rear-view mirror cap the same.

Yes?

Inside mirror - you should be able to just slip the mirror cap onto the mirror. In my R55s I just slipped it on, never used the 2-sided tape adhesive. It never rattled, slipped, nothing.

The outside mirrors caps are direct replacements. Pop the old ones off, snap the new ones on. Very simple task, if the F56 is like the R56. Which it should be.

Wow, great news. Thanks!

I'll buy them as aftermarket and do it myself. No telling how much labor the dealer will tack on if I order through them.
