Anyone with experience installing OEM stripes?

Looking to purchase the OEM bonnet and side stripes in red for my 2020 JCW. I’ve received a quote from the dealer for the stripes themselves but thought about saving on labor and trying to install them myself. Anyone have any experience installing them? Was there a template that allowed for perfect alignment? Last thing my OCD needs is a crooked *** stripe running down the side of my car. lol

I can't cut a straight line with a scissor so I've never attempted stripes. However with painters tape or similar it is pretty easy now to get your alignment set up with a tape measure. Using the wet application method of installing makes it a simple job. Check out some YouTube videos on the process.

Minnie made some good points and only to add to those ...

Dry fit your stripes and outline them with tape making a template to 'fit' the stripes during the application process. A solution of water and light soap will help keeping both the stripes and car wet. The solution will allow you to 'move' / 'slide' your stripes during application. Once you are satisfied with your look .... use a squigee (usually start in the center and push to the ends) to push out solution and let dry.

Take your time ....

Check out the process on this link.

Regardless of the destination for the stripes, the process is the same. I've replace bonnet stripes twice no problems.
21JCW makes a good point of using the squeegee. You want to push any air bubbles out best you can. If you do have a very few really small ones, leave the car parked in the sun and they will eventually disappear.
One other thing. The idea has been tossed about on this forum that stripes will make your MINI go faster. Personally, wouldn't argue the point.

I've installed many stripes and other than what was already mentioned, I would also say to make sure your surface is extremely clean because any and all surface blemishes will show thru the vinyl. It would be a great idea to clay bar the area first to remove any small contaminates. Also, use a squeegee with a microfiber side to it or you'll risk scratching the vinyl.

If you have a fishtank then the magnets that clean the glass are the best tools for you

you can hold and reposition/dry fit and mark up as many times as you like, tp

also helps with wet fitting as one end will stay planted, rather than float around the hood

Orlando?

Do a search for shops that do vinyl and/or wraps ..... they can make and apply any for of stripe you can dream up AND it costs less that OE stuff . . . There's a kid that is active in MINI world around here that does all sorts of custom stripes/vinyl .. he enters his MINI in car shows .... dig around FB group SUNSHINE MINIS

It has been proven that yes, good for 50hp depending on the weather and wind direction. However, red only... especially when painted!
