Are the stripes painted on or how else are they applied on?
Do you put them on yourself or can you get them professionally done, because i dont want to stuff the stripes and my car up?

try matt at cooperflags.com, one of the MCO (haha) sponsors. The stripes come with install instructions and a small squeegee thingy. Easy to do as long as you are patient. I instaled my own graphics and they came out just fine.

wash bonnet with dawn or dish soap solution and dry.
if you're in colder climate, heatup the bonnet with a heat gun.
then apply thin soap solution to both the bonnet and back of
stripe with a spray bottle. apply stripe on the bonnet and position.

then squeegee the soap solution from middle to outward
direction on both sides getting all bubbles from under the
stripe. wipe off excess solution with a lint free towel.

then, get your heat gun again and warm up the stripes
(not hot to the touch) for good 5-6min. let dry for 24hours.
do the other side, wax your bonnet and you're done.

It also depends on what kind of stripe you are looking for. The standard bonnet stripes are easy to apply because they sit on the flattest part of the bonnet. Try doing a racing or viper stripe down the center where the bulge is and that's more work. Not to mention having to deal with the emblem. It CAN be done, as you can see here in this pic of my own car. I had a professional sign company do mine.

Heat guns can be evil on clear coat finish as in blister. Good advice but I recommend application in a heated garage and a Hair Dryer gun to soften the stripe material.

You can use a heat gun on low setting just keep it moving.

is mini's paint that poor? not that you would need to get the bonnet HOT, but pretty warm to the touch. you can use a hairdryer, but i use a heatgun for all
my decal applications.

ive been working on japanese cars most of my life and never had problems with
blistering clearcoats even at extreme temps... is MINI's paint that weak to heat?

i just want to be sure.

Sorry, my comment was for any paint job not MINI specific. Heat guns can be nasty if used by the inexperianced. I have a Milwakee model that messed up the clear coat while trying to remove stripes, of course that was on a Chevy Blazer known for cheezy paint.

I'm sure most people will not concentrate the gun tip in one area for very long but if you do properties of paint can change. I have not tried it on the MINI as it's new and I have a built in fear factor with past results. Your experiance tells the most acurate story.
