The ones in the first picture are the tail lights that you get with the halogen headlights and they don't have any LED design elements .
The second ones are if you spec the LED headlights and they have LED elements integrated into the taillight .

That makes total sense. Thank you because I thought i was losing it lol.
I too was a bit confused, as I noticed the 'plain' tail lights on my local dealer's lot and thought they looked 'sad' compared to the 'ringed' lights. I asked my MA about the difference and she wasn't sure, but was going to look into it. I had a spark of genius a few seconds after talking to her and checked out the inventory pics on their website to see if I could determine if the style was related to an option package. Ding, ding, the 'ringed' tails matched to the LED lighting package.
I had a big sigh of relief, as I had just placed an order on a '17 with the LED package...YES! I hate to say it, but the 'plain' tails look really unattractive when compared to the 'ringed' tails. Even my wife commented on how much better the 'ringed' tails look.
Here is a side-by-side pics I pulled down just to see:
Yes, LED vs non LED. The LED version look more aggressive. I figured LED taillights would have been stock for the new F54 when I first saw it back in the F54 launch party.
Anyone figure out how to make some bulb within the Clubman rear door tail lights come on when braking??? There's got to be a mod someone can figure out.
I have looked at them at the F54 launch event and you would have to tap the bumper lights into those upper door lights. I would think it's like tapping the rear fog light into dual lights. You might have to drill the rear taillights and add LEDs or something.
There are LED bar in the light itself and you would have to get a brighter LED and then tap the signal from the current bumper brake lights, i think that the only solution at this time.
I dont think it could be coded since its wired and coded for those lights only, no one has dived into the coding world that much with the F54 footwell module.
