Been reading a lot on this thread because I am very interested to getting this for my Canadian Spec Mini.

According to http://www.bmwcoding.com/ , the strobe effect of the light is caused by cold and warm and cold bulb monitoring check. Or at least I am pretty certain that's the case here.

So for you guys who are stuck or don't want to pay hundreds of $$ at the Mini dealerships. This should only take less than 10 minutes to do. Let me know if this works because I am probably going to buy a set of these once I find a seller willing to ship to Canada for a reasonable cost.

With a program like NCS Expert, go to your FRM module and change the following:

Low beam cold monitoring
KALTUE_AL_M1_6_M2_38 set to nicht_aktiv
low beam hot monitoring
WARMUE_AL_M1_6_M2_38 set to nicht_aktiv

Probably should do it for high beam. But try this first.

Let me and all of us know on the forum so we can save some cost from the dealership.

Good luck!!!

Just going to share what I did to make this work.

1. Install lights
2. Add $522 VO to CAS and FRM module and default car.
3. Thanks to http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...non-Headlights. Car now thinks it is on bixenon wiring configuration for the 12 pin connector. So need to tell the car it is using the stock 3 pin connector forh alogen , so need to code PWM_FL_BEI_BIXENON in FRM module from wert_02 to wert_01, wert_01. Now flash to pass works. Also, high beam stays on!!!!!!!
PWM_FL_BEI_BIXENON
wert_01
wert_01
4. Might want to disable auto leveling because you don't have it

Hope this is helpful!!!!!! I am quite happy with the result! Hope no one delete this post.

Hey Chris- like you I did this upgrade over at Mini Mt Laurel, and I also have the aim issue you did. How exactly did you raise them up? Any help is appreciated.

Whoops-never mind. Did a search and found the answer. Anyone know about how many turns of the adjustment screw got them to the proper level?

For everyone asking about the pre-2009 models: I am going to check my 2008 tonight to see if I can code these same options. I already have $522 VO added which allows me to run my current retrofit bixenons, but I'm assuming our models don't have the options for the 12 pin vs 3 pin connection. If I can confirm that the pre-2009 models have the same options for coding, I might pull the trigger and try to fit these to my car and report back. $900 is a lot to gamble on some lights, though :/

It would seem like it is possible to make it work on a pre-2009 car: https://www.facebook.com/waymotorwor...52065464003174

Excellent! I wonder what the 'trick programming' was. If they release that info, I'll buy them right now...

I won't be able to make it :-/ I'm getting a set delivered tomorrow and I'll be trying to figure out the proper coding. I'll report back with my progress and findings.

So I just realized this past week that my high beams don't work @.@ not sure how that happened. I'm guessing it has to do with the way it was coded? Can anyone help me out?

OK update on a pre-2009 install

Everything went perfect! After hooking them up, I poked around in NCSexpert for a while and ended up with this combo that didn't flicker and also didn't throw a bulb-out warning:

1. Added $522 VO for Xenons

2. FRM Module Changes:

Disables auto-leveling
AUTO_LWR_ENABLE
nicht_aktiv

Also disables auto-leveling
DYNAM_LWR_ENABLE
nicht_aktiv

Changes headlight pinout
PWM_FL_BEI_BIXENON
wert_01
wert_01

I still have no clue why MINI claims they only work on 2009+ vehicles. I'll post here if anything stops working or is giving me problems, but at the moment, I don't see any issues.

I was about to say, what was preventing these from being installed on pre-09 cars.

Are these supposed to strobe constantly until coded? I was under the impression that it was only during the start-up bulb checks, but mine never stop. Is there something I should check out before I make the 1hr drive to the dealer to find out they still wont work?

Yes, they will strobe until you get your car coded.

That's pretty awesome. I wonder if WMW can confirm that's what they did also?

I just need $1000 now...

He won't confirm it. It will screw his business model up.

Is this upgrade worth $1000+? I like the look of the original Xenons, but aren't sure about the retrofit's lower light output, the gray (not chrome) interior baffles, and fake washer cover.

What do you think?

I cannot tell a difference between the light output of the 35w housings and these 25w housings for what it's worth. The gray doesn't look bad, although I still might Joey mod them because I like the black look better. I think if you get the washer jet retrofit, the washers would be functional too. You can't tell that the washers are fake anyway. Are they worth $1000? Who knows. I was just the dumb one who decided I wanted the headlights and splurged before I realized what I was doing :-)

I just did the upgrade, purely for the better night vision. I think it was worth it, although my bill came in under $1000. I agree the grey baffles are not great looking, and the fake washer thing is just stupid (not to mention you can't get the covers in black). The light is probably not as good as what you'd get from the standard xenons, but I think it's a big improvement from the regular halogens.

Well, the way I look at it, if they save me from hitting one deer (or worse), then they paid for themselves. Cosmetically, they do improve the look of the car, but not worth a grand for that alone.
