ElectricalFor discussions regarding wiring up electrical modifications such as radar detectors, brake light mods, power sockets, and driving lights in Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S (R56), and Cabrio (R57) MINIs.
Just want to give you guys a heads up. We now have halogen => projector LED DRL headlights from spyder. These are in the F60 design for your R60/ R61. They are just like the halogen spyder ones fro the R56-R59 but these are for the R60 Countryman / R61Paceman. No Xenon to Xenon version yet.
But these take halogen H9 bulbs ( or if you want to do your own xenon/ led retrofit H9) Bi-halogen. This means they have 1 bulbs that has a flap like the Xenon factory system and when you use the highs, the flap moves up.
Bottom turn signal is standard P21 bulbs and this system is plug and play.
ECS, do you know what the color temperature is and what is the bulb size for future reference? The retrofit is a bit yellow and I was hoping for a whiter color.
Is there a difference between using a used genuine xenon headlight and the retrofit kit?
I noticed the retrokit is 25W, is the original xenon headlight also 25W?
I want to perform this upgrade, but the retrokit costs way too much for my blood.
Retrofit is quick and easy. To do the factory headlights you will need to fit the auto leveling, factory xenon headlights and code them, which is much more work and finding parts. New the parts are much more money. Also retrofit dont have headlight washers as they are 25w. They have dummy caps. The factory ones also have headlight washers, you will have to just leave them unplugged. If you wanted to hook those up it would be wiring and then a washer pump change and hoses.

The original xenon lights are 35w.
In Europe, if your headlight output is over 2000 lumens, you need to have headlight washers. The 25w kit is just about 2000 lumens, so no washers are required. Makes the kit and install a little less expensive for Europe.
There are aftermarket options that are less expensive.
I currently have halogen's with auto-leveling, but no washers.
I understand that the retrokit is the best solution, but like I said, it's simply too expensive for me, and that's before even talking about shipping costs (i'm located in Israel), so i'm trying to find other solutions.
EDIT:
If I dont care about the washers, and I just cap them, theoretically, I can purchase used xenon headlights and program them using NCSExpert?

Yes , looks like its a allen, with Phillips in the center adjustment. That nylon color screw on the back tab. Also adjustment large screws ( with holes ) on the two tabs to align to the hood ring trim and hole.
Xenon Headlight Titanium Gray 25 W - Set 63102347698KT
Im minutes away from ordering my set of xenon and im having trouble deciding between the black and the grey background.
My Mini is a 2012 R56 LCI Cooper S in Pepper White color.
Anyone maybe have any pictures of these xenon's installed on their car? Looking for pics of both colors so i can decide.
Also, if anyone have any recommendation for a good OBD cable that would work well with my car and the NCSExpert software which im going to use to code the car properly for the xenon's, it would be greatly appreciated!
I think the gray 25 watt retrofit kit ones look great, they seem darker in person and on sale. $748 for the set and free shipping (quick coding and your done) vs the factory Bi xenon ~$711 for just one side and then you have to get the control unit to match and then work on coding them.
Thanks for your reply!
Unfortunately I can't order form you, since I live in Israel and the prices of shipping is way too high to my country ($463) so i'm buying them locally.
The thing is my car is white with a black roof, black mirrors and soon black wheels.
Im also about to de-chrome the car and paint all the chrome parts in piano black (upper and lower grill trim, headlight and taillight surrounds).
My concern is is that the black b/g headlight would be too much on one hand, and that the grey b/g would not fit the whole black&white color scheme the car is about to get on the other hand.
I know they are large boxes, all I can think of is contact one of resellers Top RPM Israel. I dont know how much of mark up over there is and cost. I can PM you there contact.
We ship worldwide.
Black might look better with your set up, but the gray kind of breaks things up in contrast. Good luck and glad to help my overseas MINI people. I know the local MINI group and the club always have some great beach parties.
I did.
Went for the black background eventually. Looks amazing and the difference in lighting is simply mind blowing.
Ordered them online from www.cars245.com
This is by far the best modification I have ever installed on any of my cars.
Now its time for the next project - finding a good and affordable multimedia system that has both apple car play and android auto.
