oem xenon 25w retrofit kit??

so ive read here and there that mini announced they would offer a 25w HID retrofit kit for US models but ive seen nothing about availability or pricing. I saw the official press release from bmw about it as well. when I called my mini dealer the other day service guy had no clue what I was talking about o.0 anyone have an info on the availability of the new retrofit kit? I was going to buy a extra set of oem headlights and custom fit projectors in them and just do do my own custom HID retrofit but when I head about the oem kit I decided to put everything on hold.

There are several places that have them for sale right now. ECS Tuning has them on their website. Looks like it's about $900 for the pair.

If you are a member of TarHeel Mini Motoring Club the price is $800. This listing is by a Mini dealer.

Do they come with the black housing?

synzeus 12-29-2013 11:27 PM

Is it available only for >2010 models? Cause i cant find it for my 2008 Cooper on RealOEM..

They are for the US production MINIs R56, R55, R57 , R58 & R59 9/2009+ ( 63102347698 & 63102347700 ). Gray aka titanium gray ( which most people have said looks a little anthracite ).

For the euro market the part numbers are in the link and it looks like 9/2009+ for them ( ~985 & ~986 gray && ~956 ,~ 957 black ), but I do not know what additional programming will be needed for euro MINI since your in Greece "Synzeus". Euro market comes in titanium gray and black. US market did not get the black in the 25w version , only the gray.

Do these not work for early production R56? 07-08?

Redrek43 01-01-2014 06:11 PM

Looks like a custom retrofit it is then

othrside 01-01-2014 06:31 PM

I'm curious as to what the difference is between 07-08 and 09...

WayMotorWorks 01-01-2014 07:55 PM

We got a kit in stock and they are really nice, I like the grey inside.

Way, have y'all had a chance to see if you can get em to work in an 07-08?

I understand that, bit I don't see the differences between 07/08 and 09+.

Maybe a coding issue?

ECSTuning 01-02-2014 05:25 AM

I would guess a coding issue. I can also see a split year in the instrument wiring harness right around 9/2009, looks like some changes there.

Thanks

Any word on if/when there will be a retrofit kit for Countryman/Paceman?

ECSTuning 01-02-2014 05:42 AM

I have been looking into this, nothing yet on the Countryman / Paceman. Possible MINI might have something in the future since it has been done for those years of the R56+.

Here is the other thread from a forum member that was trying with the OEM Xenon Housing for the Countryman.

Thanks

mtbscott 01-02-2014 07:28 AM

So this kit is exactly the same as OEM HID's including self-leveling? And works without a trip to dealer for coding?
If so that's the bargain of the century. I just picked up a used 2011 and xenons were one of my must haves, as the price of retrofit was always seen as heinously expensive before. Less than $1000 for the real deal is a bargain (although picking them up on order for $500 more so). Knowing this might have opened me up to some cars I ignored in my search.

They are 25 watt Xenon vs. the factory Xenon 35 watt. MINI shows they have the same light pattern. Manual height adjustment. Will need coding by MINI dealership. That's all the info I have.

Thanks

Aikmanson 01-02-2014 01:30 PM

What do you mean by coding by the dealership. Can I buy these, plug them in, and have them work? Or do I need to see a dealership. For reference, I'm talking about a 2010 without stock xenons

ECSTuning 01-02-2014 01:43 PM

See here as we had reports that your MINI has to be coded by a MINI dealership for Xenons option.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-bi-xenon.html

Thanks

Aikmanson 01-02-2014 02:17 PM

So what do you do, go into the dealer and ask then to code for xenons? Sorry if these questions seem ignorant, but I read that some guy mentioned these to their dealer and they had no idea what these even are. I plan on calling the dealer tomorrow to see what's what.

ECSTuning 01-02-2014 02:19 PM

I would give them a heads up what you are doing. Since these are so new some dealerships might not even know about them.

solskjaer1999 01-02-2014 03:08 PM

I really wanted these for mine. Too bad it's an 08....Damn it MINI!!

Zimm 01-03-2014 04:09 AM

I have an 2011 and this looks like just the upgrade for me. (ECS hooked me up with HID retrofits on our previous '10 Jetta TDI). For the VW you could change the coding using aftermarket VAGCOM software. Anything like that for the mini, or is it a trip to the dealer no matter what?

Thanks. Glad they worked for you on Jetta TDI. :)
MINI owners do has something similar and its NCS Expert mentioned hear on NAM. Otherwise the MINI dealership can code. That's the only one I can think of outside the dealership. I know there are a couple guys on here that might have more input on the outside resources for NCS.
