Umm... is this bad?

Hey guys! Just got back from the MINI dealership with an installed Alta 15% pulley and Alta CAI... I noticed they didn't remove the backend insulator thingy for the CAI... you know, the little wall closest to the windshield. Now that I'm back home, I checked the Alta site and noticed the wall thingy isn't there on the pictures.

Did they install it wrong? Does it make a difference?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Someone calm me down please... :impatient

Well you're not doing any damage but you aren't getting anywhere near the full effect. No Damage done, but kinda makes the intake worthless when you aren actually getting more air.

Let me guess a DTM install?

DTM? If that means the dealer did it, then "YUP!" LOL

*sigh*

Can I fix it myself or do I throw it in their faces like Stewie on Family Guy and firmly demand, "MAKE IT AGAIN!"?

DTM=Downtown MINI

Here is a link if you want to fix it yourself, I might be able to dig up the ALTA factor directions, webbs are about the same but come with photos. Or take it back and ask them to do it the right way.

Yup, it was at Downtown MINI here in Orlando... hehe...

Thanks for the link... would we have to remove the entire system just to get that back panel out of there???

Yeah it can be a bit of a pain and is certainly frustrating, shouldn't take too long. Remove the filter undo the hose, 3 screws in the back you can't lose, loosen/remove the bottom of the battery box, not to mention the caps for those screws then put it all back together.

Phillips screwdriver, Torx (03 or 25 can't remember but if oyu wan tI can check), and an 8mm drive for the filter.

if you still hav ethe stock hose you can probably leave it coected and the box in it'll be more crampt but save you a step in ethier direction.

ALTA's instructions say to install without the back so you can definately make a case the did it wrong, if you want them to fix it.

Might want to give these guy's a call I've heard very good things about them. I tened to do any MINI work on my own (or with the help of my MINI freinds) when I was in Daytona, DTM quickly lost my trust and Tom Bush in Jax could hardly fit me in for service. Besides service tends to cost less when I do the work myself.

Thanks, I'll take a look at it and if I feel too lazy to worry about it, the dealer can make it right. It kinda pisses me off that we just went all the way to downtown Orlando, and now we need to go back. Grr! :-/

Someone give me a large knife, I'll cut the piece loose like a tastey salami! lol *sigh*

Alrighty, my dad and I took the thing apart today and removed that back panel. Luckily, it's all working tonight as we run my MINI around. We did make a minor "modification" though. We left on the weatherstripping completely instead of chopping it off where the back panel used to sit. The weatherstripping is just kinda bridged from the two sides where people normally cut it. Would there be any protective advantage of this? I can easily cut it to be like how I see it in the pictures... but are there any pros/cons on what to do with it? I know... silly question. lol
