I don't think it will happen...

a lot of the TC crowd are removing the SC and going straight turbo. If you want peak power, that's the way to go. Ask Ryephile about it....

If there were a straight-forward, CARB-certified, SC to turbo swap, it would top my list. I don't think it will happen... but the M62 is not far behind, and much more affordable, especially with the install.

I think you are correct there!

But who knows, maybe the FBT crowd will do it!

I have heard a few times from various vendors that they would pursue/get CARB on a various mod, and it never materialized, for whatever reason. I know it entails some upfront costs to consider. I would love to see FBT do this though...

For me though, I can reach my goals with the M62, and being first to market is big in that regard.

I'm in too btw as I don't care about the interest on the CC for this one. I would like to be the first in Italy to have it and I can test it on the Autostrada which we can go a "little" faster for long periods of time than in the States. Gawd I love Europe!

Exciting stuff....

Can anyone comment if M7 or the manufacturer have thought about, discussed, or would willing to offer a "short kit" for those of us that may wish to source our own M62 and/or water pumps?

Sorry but I don't think there's any interest, as all the R&D, investment in tooling etc. cost major time and money.

There also wouldn't be much in it.

There would be an input converter, an output converter, and a water pump with a bit of electronics. I'm sure there are other bits and pieces around, but if you want to roll your own, get a ruler and some parts, and have at it! But what you'd save in $ you'd loose in time many times over.

Spider, are you currently running the Unichip with this supercharger or stock ECU? Would you recommend getting the Unichip or waiting until there is an alternative out there? I'm waiting for the M62 to come out, but in the meantime, I think my 15% pulley and HDI could benefit from software. What would you recommend. Thanks!

Check out Issue 4 of MC squared...

there isn't any "best" out yet. They all have pros and cons. The closest you'll get to "best" is something a specialist can tune.

I wish I could, but I don't subscribe (I need to ). I heard there was a good article about ECU's in there, written by you, correct?

Anyway, Isn't the unichip really the best tunable one out there right now? Is there a way to locate someone who is fluent in tuning a unichip near Indiana?

has a list of shops that support it. The unichip is a good product, but because it's a piggy back, you're stuck with the stock red-line and DSC function. Once again, there's no best...

But it is a good product. Gary had one on his car, but now that he's got Dinan on it, I think Mini Cindy may be next in line for it.

Best advice I've got for you is talk to people in your area, maybe there's atuner that has hacked the ECU and can give you a custom tune. Local support is the best way to go.

Thanks I also have a friend dropping off the 4th edition MC2 to my house today so I can fill my brain :impatient .

I guess I'll have to some more research and figure out the "best" way for me. What sucks is that I'm basically in a corn field, and there isn't many people near by for me to "fine-tune" my ride...

Just saw this..... Matt is exactly right.... local support makes all the difference..... as for my car I believe the Uchip is coming off in favor of a "custom" MTH....

because of M7 we have a relationship with MTH that will really help with the tune... we also want to raise the rev limiter

Plus with MTH in addition to tweaking the rev limiter, you can adjust other things like how aggresive the DSC is. Correct?

But as I read in another post, some love MTH, some love to complain about it! I've been in both camps....

I've got the MTH software on our 2005 DS/B MCS and it's made a noticeable seat-of-the-pants difference. Dmh of Precision MINI came to our rescue with an update when I was pretty much abandoned by MTH-USA while still in my free update period. Personally, I'm hoping more custom tuners will begin servicing the MINI community. Have you talked with Waylen of WayMotorWorks in Indy to see what he can do for you?

The advantages of a flash rather than piggy back for me are the ability to directly affect the program rather than "tricking" the engine. I am ready for a change.... MTH has never been an alternative because I never felt comfortable not having direct access or a at least a decent link to the "tuner".... with dmh and M7 involved my confidence is high....

Raising the rev limiter is a must

I will get my car back sometime over the weekend to drive for a while...... I am very excited to finally get it back.....there will soon be a lot more Minis out there with reputations as "monsters" as the P car guys and the BMW guys are going to be shaking their heads even harder......see the def of "fun" in the dictionary

I haven't contacted Waylen about software yet, probably should I still need to get that magazine so I can find out the benefits of one vs the other...

Those are the guys that mutter "but my salesperson told me 'There is no substitue'!" as you stay on their rear engined bumpers through the turns (and in some cases, pass them). Maybe with the M62, they may be muttering that as you match them in the straights, too.

Or, as we say down here in the south, "If you can't run with the big dogs, get off the porch..."

Or, at a track event it could be "If you can't run with the big dogs, get outa the Porsche..."
