I just got home from Nashville and the "62" is a monster....... I am blown away at how it has transformed my car

this is with a bad cat - some inexplicable exhaust problem and no tune while obviously running rich.....

it keeps getting stronger like the computer in "War Games" (Wopper)

this is one very quick/powerful Mini.....

very seriously I think we have another 20-30 whp untapped and it is already stupid strong......

All of my mods are loving the 62

Dave droped me off and will have the car this week and next if necessary to cut the cat out..... we are waiting for Milltek to deliver the new header...2-3 weeks..... meanwhile we are removing the cat from my Milltek header ( it is bad).....

also there will be a tune done..... Peter from M7, Dave, Will and I had a ball the last couple of days..... everyone is pretty excited and there are stories of me getting stopped at 1AM by the Nashville police (don't believe Will it is not true)

One more seriously...... this is a must have mod for all you guys with ambitions...... I am blown away......I am exhausted and will try to write more in the next few days......

Congragualtions Spider. I talked to Peter tonight and he told he ,as well as quite a few " guest " drivers were very impressed. I think the most amazing aspect of all this is ,as you say ,the package is in a very " raw " state. Time to TUNE

a little more info

Dave did not have time to cut the bad cat out before he started toward Atlanta on Sunday.... he chose to take the time to re-make the pulley at a slight reduction from stock..... the car had barely been driven when he climbed behind the wheel...... when he arrived in Atlanta and I got to drive..... I could tell that there was a chaNGE BUT FRANKLY NOT MUCH WAS HAPPENING with the engine.... I was not disappointed because I knew that we had the bad cat and there was no tune...... driving up to Nashville I exercised the car some and at higher speeds it performed very well....

Then something happened.....did the ECU adapt....did the cat get a whole blown through it...... maybe both...... all I know is when I took Will for a ride at 1:00 AM and put my foot in it...all hell broke loose...... I was surprised as Will..... the car had been transformed and it was .... well.... more than just a little impressive......there was lot of HS factor

We parked the car in the high humidity at the Nashville MTTS sight and talked to a lot of people about the kit...... we sweat....and sweat..... ate BBQ and hung out at the park from about 12 noon until the party started at about 5..... Dave and I left for Atl at 8:00 and on the way home it kept getting better stronger and smoother.... i can tell you without any uncertainty that the ECU adapts....in a big way....

I have already posted that the car will be tuned and refined this week but the "kit" performed flawlessly and Dave has done an amazing job of engineering.

btw Will and Dave hit it off big and all I can tell you is there are some very....make that very..... exciting ideas that are being worked out..... these are two very creative guys who are VERY passionate about what they are doing..... they talked to each other and were working out equations on Dave's palm all day...... Additionaly, I have a lot of respect for Peter....he flew in from LA met with Will, Dave and me..... We had a great time and he is totally dedicated to the Mini and was just great to be around.....(thanks again for dinner Peter)

I hope you guys are as excited about this as I am.....this is a big effort and early idications are...... with a big result.

Hats off to Dave......this has been a one man Herculean effort..... almost no sleep the last three nights before Nashville two 3 AMs and one 5 AM night.....and he is very pumped

I've been living vicariously through your experiments with the M62...so very envious. It sounds like you're really beginning to unleash its potential

Thanks for keeping us in the loop

Your using the Unichip right Spider? Are you guys going to make a custom tune into something programmable?

Very excited man...and jealous to boot.

Way to go guys (to many to mention) hopefully this unit is for sale soon!

Between the towel changes that are tucked into my shirt neck for catching the drool over the M62 kit, I was able to make my way to the DMV site and get my new plate in anticipation of my future "mod"..

All I need is a number to call to order the kit.. until then I'll be waiting with baited breath..

Make it so Number One! (aka Dave)

I am so excited, I have to take a minute and dance in my office chair.

<insert happy HP dance>!

SpiderX, I too am curious to know which engine management you are using. I know the stock ECU is adaptive, but it sounds like yours made some MAJOR changes! Keep the info flowing! It sounds GREAT!

I will also add myself to list of folks anxious for ANY sound-bites or video clips... these are INVALUABLE when selling this idea to fellow MINIacs.

I have four friends following this thread, all of whom are keen to see this kit in action!

Thanks

Now I'm angry!

SpiderX, why couldn't you just leave well enough alone?

How am I gonna 'splain this one to Pam?

Anyway, guess I'm in, and it's your fault!!!

And BTW - thanks for selflessly giving to get this ball rolling.

I'm sorry Jim....NOT..... this is a MUST for you....it is startling

regarding the Unichip... there will be some effort to tune with it but we are frankly looking at other options of the "flash variety" mostly because we want to raise the rev limiter to about 7500... maybe 7850.... or who knows 8000...... this is almost a debate for another thread.....

It will be very interesting to see what the M62 will do with different levels of modification.
Right now both ends of the spectrum have an install, Major Mini with a basically a stock S, and SpiderX with his car "built to the hilt".
Very cool to see this project progress.

We were talking about that last night on the way back.....we will have both ends covered but we hope some "early adopters" buy a kit and report their findings with their list of mods.... additionally, we thought about a "users group" because of the imense task documenting the myriad of mods that exist out there......it looks like M7 will have a demo car and I have my car in Atlanta... people can check them out and once there is about 5-10 kits installed there will be plenty of info available..... what do you all think?

Hey Spidey,

I think that's a fantastic idea. A small, controlled group of kits in "good hands" could really help the kit succeed. It broadens the spectrum of enviroments the kit would live in out in the real world and therefore potentially expose and weak areas. Finding and fixing these weaknesses will make the kit stronger when it makes it to market in production-quality form. It takes a little extra time but the QA is much higher.

I'd be more than happy to be one of the "testers" for an '06 car in the N Cal market. I've also got access to a couple of dyno's for info gathering..

Great idea Charles..

I'm interested. I can offer up my 06 JCW (w/ DFIC on order) as another test subject. At the very least count me as one of those interested in the kit when they finally market it.

I would love to be one of the lucky ones to test it. I will not have the DFIC, so that I actually could test this with the stock IC.

I'll test a kit out. This is at the top of my Mod List right now. Been following this thread like crazy.

Hey SpiderX

I can take care of the Caribbean Region,

I use my MINI for testing too (2005 MCS Cabrio).

Peter (M7) called and told me about this project.
I'm preparing my MINI as a show car so maybe
we could work something out in the lines of a MINI M7 Supercharged Monster lol!

It could be really cool since
I'm about to go live with my website: www.minijunkies.com
and could spread the word locally.

let me know
regards,
Charles

You've got to bring it out to one of the local MINI or BMW meets... I'd love to check it out some time

Glad it's working out so well!

I may have not been clear... I am getting so much response to this I want to be clear that kits would have to be purchased .... Early adopters would "buy" their systems......but be willing to give feedback informally
