It's 1:11 and Dave just dropped me off...... we dropped off Waylen about 1/2 hr ago and left Josh about an hr ago......

we did not get a tune tonight...... we ran out of fuel with my 400 injectors and need 440s......

tomorrow we will swap out the injectors and make another small adjustment and tune tomorrow night...

The car is going back to Greenville with Dave for a few tweeks......

I am not happy with the Megan header..... too loud and resonant.....with the Milltek cat-back the exhaust sounds "tubby"

The quality of the Milltek header design is in question but it is going back on the car as this thing has to be driveable and the Milltek catback and header have a nice pleasing "note" ........

I know Dave Emanuel (Random Technology) quite well and have worked on a project with him..........there is no cat on the car temporarily as Milltek has been promising any day now for a month. I am hoping that the new header gets here next week (fingers crossed)

The Megan header is just too loud for my taste.....I'm sure many would not be bothered

"RSS feed" ? radio satelitte signal ? no idea what this is... but we joke last night as the four of us were driving in the car with two computers hooked into the car and wires and readouts everywhere that we wished we had video as many of you would love to see this process.... Dave, Waylen, Josh and I were tooling around "tuning"

Bob,

My new stock MINI MCS header is sitting in the warehouse, just 10 minutes from the install party.

As I offered previously, you are more than welcome to use it to establish a baseline and keep the noise down until you get your header of chioce.

It's just sitting there...

You could have it today while everyone is here.

interesting. I'm thinking about a Megan header with a random metallic substrate HFC welded in place of the 'test' pipe. Wonder if that will tone things down a bit.

Well... I have seen the beast. Very well refined beast in disguise but beast nonetheless.

Wow. I have never seen a MINI move like that. I am thoroughly impressed. And to think, it's still being tuned.... so it will be faster... oh dear

Well...well.....where to begin.....this weekend was nuts...

Waylan was doing a "mod" party at Dane's house north of Atlanta and Josh (Unichip) was at the Nopi nationals (a whole other story) at Atlanta motor spedway south of Atlanta and Dave and I spent a lot of time driving back and forth.... I am taking a break ayt work so I can't go into detail yet but imagine WAylan, Dave, Josh and me in my Mini driving up and down I-75 with two computers on Josh's lap....

bottom line we goy a rough tune done yesterday afternoon and the car is really coming alive...... I took a few people for spirited rides and it is hard to believe but the adaptive properties of the ECU kept the car getting progressivly stronger into the night...... finally last night when Dave dropped me off the car was at a power level where we both agreed that if it got no stronger it has more than met our expectations...... it is really startling..... WE got a hell of a return on our investment and through tune and header and a few other things we guess there is 10-15 more to be had at the wheels.... the torque curve is amazing 5th gear feels like 3rd and a roll on in 6th at 3500rpm will move you back in your seat....

Dave is happy and the kits are going to production.

The Unichip product and company were fantastic to us and many maps will be in development.... as well as custom tuning froma network of tuners..... these guys were/are really great and very helpful..... I drove two Unichip tuned cars on saturday and they were both very smooth and strong....

I have to get back to work but now is the time to get serious about this mod...... the only downside is now evryone can have a very scarry Mini.

There is a series of DDM62 products scheduled to compliment the M62 kit.... the DDM intake has been renamed to M62intake......

I can't post some of the performance capabilities do to the rules of the board...

I have to second Jenn's opine on the M62. Damn! Just damn! This thing is so smooth that you don't even realize how fast you're going until um, you find out you're a law abiding citizen and are observing the speed limit faithfully. Seriously folks I can't wait for the finished product. Start saving, go as is with your current set up or go full monty with head, intake, dfic, header, etc cuz you ain't gonna be disappointed no matter where you decide to take this.

Sorry but no vid. My cam decided to breakdown this weekend and it was full tilt installation (for Way), education (oil changing, this is a torque wrench and how to use it, oh! bling stuff!, etc) and hosting duties. I'm beat. Bob & Dave gotta be tapped big time. Dave is an incredibly knowledgeable automotive talent. It was pure entertainment to watch him and Waylen work in tandem on this project and resolve some hurdles that had been a problem until now. Don't ask me the details cuz they went waaaaay technical and deep. I just kind of nodded my head with a look of complete comprehension and said insightful things like, "That's an interesting angle to look at this from." or "I like where you're going with that thought. Continue." Real helpful stuff like that.

Did I say "Damn!"? Just damn!

Very cool, man.
Thanks for the update.
Could you even feel the weight of four guys in the car?

we were not able to tune when Way was in the car... we did not have enough injector 440s were necessary for my car.... on Sunday with the 3 of us it was still fast.....

THe car got stronger even when Dans and Jenn took a ride.... I would love to see how that works but it definately does some learing and adaptation......

At some point when I have more time I will give more info... (note all the typos)

Bob,

Two quick questions:

1) Has Dave developed a process to determine pulley sizes for use with the M62 kit?

2) Any dyno runs made yet or planned for the very near future?

Great questions!
Also what is the amount of boost the car is running?

What about the original stock M62?

Even though I am really looking forward to look at some numbers from SpiderX I am wondering about the original stock M62 project car. Did we get any data on that one yet? I believe all numbers that were previously mentioned were very preliminary.

I don't mean to take any attention away from the development of Bob's car, I just can relate a bit more to the stock car, which is closer to what I have.

my dyno projections:
stock mini: 150 whp
stock mini, 15% M45: 170whp

stock car with M62, basic MTH: 180 whp (about 30hp gain)

15% pullied car (drops the pulley): M62, basic MTH: 180 whp

highly modded (spider): head, injectors, intercooler, header, unichip optimized: 240-250whp

Is that on Helix dyno or a "normal" dyno"? Are you concluding this from the fact that SpiderX has 190 - 200 hp currently or 230 - 240 now.

ok:
I've seen helix dyno a few stock minis and he usually gets about 150; not a bad starting point.

the most Helix gets with just a pulley (maybe intake and exhaust) is around 170-175 (about 20whp from a pulley)

several also with modded (heads, headers, cam) cars, but no optimized A/F (like with the Apexi) are getting high 180's

add the Apex'i A/F tune, or equivalent and get 215 (spider just before M62)

from that take off the 15% pulley and you would be back into the 190 range...remember this is what you are doing with the M62

the guess is about 30-40whp for the M62 transplant:
