How to reset the stock ECU ??

Hi all,

i have just installed a 15% pulley and a cold air intake lately, trying to re-set my ecu, and after my search, i seems to find different version of answers. can anyone point me to the right procedures?

Thanks in advance.

i've tried it many times and its worked each time. Alternatively, you can disconnect the -ve terminal of the battery and leave it for about ten mins or so and reconnect, but this takes too long IMO. Good luck!

I cannot believe how many threads this information ends up in!

That's the OBC reset procedure. It's not the DME (ECU) reset procedure. ECU requires factory tools.

How about disconnecting the ECU leave it off for a little bit and then plug it back in?

I don't think that does it either....

I had a DME reset done for a TB change so the ECU could learn the new potentiometer positions for full open and full closed. It wiped all the personal preference settings as well, and they had to reset them all.

I think the battery trick worked on older ECUs because flash memory was soooo expensive, they used cheaper RAM that needed power to keep things "remembered". Now flash is cheap, so you can add memory that will remember things through everything short of a lightning strike, or a bunch of really energetic cosmic rays!

that's the same as doing the other one, that resets the OBC....but that resets the ignition and timing adaptation I'm sure...

this is correct....if you disconnect both sides...in the engine compartment it will reset...however, you must wait one minute after the car has been shut off to ensure all post ignition procceses are completed... thank you and have a great day....LOL...(sorry I had to add that...it sounded like some kinda technical recording...LOL)

Sounds like the only way to reset it is to use a obdII reader or to pull the ECU connectors?

why reset the ecu? I don't get this thread. Are you looking to re-program the ecu after the mod or there is something else I missed?

Just tried the "disconnect neg battery term, press brake pedal for 10 secs and then wait 15 mins"... SES light was still there upon re-connect...

I do have a code reader (actron cp9125) coming this week, so I guess I will give that a go...

If it was a 'fluke' thrown code then after a number of clean drive cycles your SES light will go out.
