Randy,

Do you know if any research has been done on increasing the volumne of the air box? I know that on motorcycles that the larger the air box the more the horsepower.

To bad it is so tight under the bonnet. Not much room to play with.

Backorder?

Randy;
Just wondering if these are now backordered or what? I would like to order one but can wait patiently until the hose is available with it. Any idea of a timeline? I have a few bucks on the M/C and would leave a deposit to reserve one!

Also are you guys dead? I have called a few times over the last two weeks to order this piece and some camber plates but to no avail. I even left a message but with no call back.

The Alta box is definitely larger. I'm quite sure I didn't lose HP moving to this intake.
Since both of these penetrate the cowl area the the volume is quite large.

Flow area between the filter and the box walls may impact flow.
Looking at my pics of both intakes there isn't much difference. The HDI filter is smaller in diameter but longer. The Alta is shorter and fatter. I haven't been able to find the surface area comparisons so it would be nice if the vendors could come here and comment.(hint hint).

My HDI was delivered about 10 minutes ago. Yeah! Thanks Bridget for getting it out!!!

obehave, Measuring my new Uni Filter element, the surface area of the curved surface + the area of one circular end is:

h = 8"
r = 2.25"

15.9043095 + 113.097312 = 129.0016215 inches

Thanks.
Need to include the end as well

Need to go measure the Uni in my Alta, when I get home.
Duh?? Why didn't I think of that??

Sorry you have not been able to contact any of us. As I have said in a couple other threads, these past few weeks(and next couple for that matter) have been really hairy. We have THREE minis to fully race prep, numerous customer installs(big stuff like heads, turbo elise...), products to launch, sponsorships to work out, phones to answer, and get orders taken care of. Bridget has been a life saver when it comes to the business and shipping end so far, so I think she diserves some appriciation. Unfortunatly she has been busy lately with non work related things, so that has made it really hard to keep up on the phones. Your online orders will be filled, so if you cant reach us over the phone, try the online store. I also try and keep up to date on my e-mails if you feel like sending me a question (Brian@WebbMotorsports.com). I hate to give excuses, but this is why you have been having trouble. Hope you guys understand.

HDI fit issues with an MCSa

Absolutely!! She took care getting the HDI out for me!! Thanks again Bridget!

Except... I'm really bummed out about this. I think...? The HDI box does not seem to fit my 2005 MCSa 100%.

The first problem, a line coming from the engine rubs right up against the HDI. No big deal - I'll just insulate it.

The more serious problem, is that the ECU bundle that comes though the wall does not completely fit with the original rubber grommet. I think I can temporarily insulate the HDI from the ECU bundle with a rubber tube cut down the middle and placed on the edge of the HDI.

Any one else run into this problem? Is it because of my MCSa? Any suggestions?

Wish I could help.

Do want to mention that for those with the UNI chip the gap works quite well. I used some pieces of round insulation to plug a few gaps and isolate the wires from the edges of the shield.
I also used it on the lower left side of the intake box. The supplied gasket didn't seal as well as I liked. Honestly it was a tiny but... well..... I have issues
Wire loom through shield pic

Side gap plugged.

Unplugged gaps.

paulr the problem you have with the HDI is similar to what would happen if you had any other CAI on the market. Just use some insulation to protect the wire as you said.

Does anybody have concerns with the fact that with the intake filter is closer to being directly under the cowl vent and that you run the risk of water getting into your intake on rainy days or whilst washing your car??

None. The Alta is almost exactly the same. My car has been outside during 2 hurricanes and driven in rain that was coming down over 2" an hour. No problems.

Wash the car weekly as well and drive it to blow off the water on occasions. No problems.

I can't see how this intake would be any different.

Good to know.

Glad to see you are still caring about those shiny screws Obehave. Do you remember recommending to me a set of polished lug nuts on Mini2 a while back when I got my SSR rims?

Performance over JCW?

Randy, Brian or anyone who has swapped-out the JCW intake.

I have an '05 MCS with the JCW intake. Are there reasonable gains to be seen from going to a WMS HDIB? Or should I say $210 worth of gains? You can see by my sig what I have so far. I am willing to do what it takes to get a few extra ponies.
I used to have a TRUE CAI on an Acura RSX Type-S (AEM) and it was, by far, the best bang-for-the-buck mod. The filter head was located just in front of the left front tire just ahead of the wheel well. COLD AIR!! And awesome sound!

VS.

Paying $210 for 1hp? The HDI makes some good hp, probably more than the other intakes out there, but it all depends on how much that horse power is worth to you. Also, keep in mind that you can sell your JCW intake.

Do it!

Just look at how the HDI shines - all that stainless. And the sound, you'll hear it way before 4500! Considering you might not see any HP difference, those two things alone I think are enough of a reason

Since you live in California you'll have to swap back to the JCW intake for smog inspections as the WMS HDI is not CARB approved.

CARB approval for CAI ? Are you serious?

So exactly what CAI systems on the market are CARB approved? I need to know 'cause mine MCS will be here in 2 weeks. CAI and exhaust will be the first mod.

The K&N Typhoon air intake is CARB approved. Comes with a label that you place near it to identify the approval.
